Hi ladies, havent posted on here for a long time but im back :)

Grace was 2 in Jan and shes still not talking :( She has sounds, like she will hum twinkle twinkle in tune and you can tell what shes singing and she says a few words like drink but its more like just the sound of the word and you can tell what its meant to mean but its not actually a word if that makes any sense.

Shes also got in the habit of smacking, pulling hair and banging her head on the floor whenever she gets frustrated.

Any ideas or advice greatly appreciated! Hope your all well.

Hey Hun!

It would probably be advisable to get a referral to the speech and language therapy team. A lot can be done on self referral but check with a HV if you still have one. It will help give you the tools and ideas to help your LO

If its any consolation, my full term 2 year old (dd2)can ay less and it seems pretty normal. I know Alex (dd1)wouldn't babble or sing at that age, and still doesn't really, (she has ASD so we have a reason now) so at 2 it sounds like progress!

Those sounds you are hearing are great, they are words, they just aren't how you or I would use them, but they still count.

Again the smacking and banging head (with dd2 we have it on the walls, floors, even attempted a pavement one in a paddy) and I think part of it is frustration at not being able to communicate as we'll as they would like to.

Missed seeing you around, I hope you are all well xxxx

Atomic has said exactly what I'm thinking :)
Jesiahs 21 Months (I suspect a similar gestation 29 weeks?) and we are also struggling with his language.

A referral sounds like a wonderful idea if it's possible. We are under a development team and assessed 6 monthly at this stage to ensure he's keeping up (or progressing at the rate they expect for his trend at the moment).

As for head banging, I can't help at all sorry. He isn't standing/walking properly yet, and so if I have to sit him down and he doesn't want to, he'll throw himself backwards no matter the surface - lots of bruises on his head and upper arms (from me grabbing him before he fully goes over - a inflicted bruise is better than a head bang I think...). That and smacking head, biting himself and head banging when he's not happy/angry about something.
