Hi ladies,

I had a 3d scan today at 28 weeks and loved it! But the only thing playing on my mind is my baby's femur length, measuring 31w 3d, even though I'm 28 weeks bang on! This is OVER the 95th percentile and I'm worried if this kind of growth continues what she'll come out like?? Her head, abominal and weight etc were all pretty much on the 50 line or a little below.

I'm 5ft 9 and husband is 6ft 5 so it's no great surprise she's tall, but this seems really high. The sonographer wasn't bothered, but has anyone else had anything similar?

I knew she'd be tall, but really didn't want her to be one of these women who ends up over 6 ft because I'm worried she'll get picked on and feel out of place amongst her peers :(

x

When they do the measurements it comes up on their screen what the normal ranges are and if there was an issue they would have discussed it with you. Try not to worry, a long baby is not going to cause any issues. I'd rather my babies legs be on the 95th percentile than it's head... which mine currently is

Quite right, be glad it's not the head. If it helps I have a female friend who's 6'3", it's never bothered her a bit. Whenever someone tried to tease her about it she'd just tell them that they were only jealous because she could see things they couldn't.

I think she might just have long lovely legs and that is wonderful isn't it? Think how she will slay all the boys when wearing a mini skirt when she is a teen :D One of my boys' head is slightly over the 95% mark and the consultant said there is nothing to worry about and that we all differ. So he might be a big strong boy and maybe one day as tall as my brother (6'5). I think this is cool and I am not worrying now :)

At my 20 week scan my LO's femur length was over the 95th percentile. I'm 5 foot 11 and OH is 6 foot so I'm not surprised.

I've learnt to love being tall and I'm sure your LO will too :)

Thank you all, I know it's a silly thing to be worried about :) thanks for all your lovely replies x

At my 28 week scan my babies femur length was 57mm which is above the 97th percentile, infact all her measurements are on the 97th percentile and they wasnt worried in the slighest x

I had my growth scan yesterday and all of Maddox--head, tummy, femurs, etc--were measuring in the 95th percentile. He weighs over four pounds already! I was so worried at first, but both my doctor and the sonographer said not to worry about it. Hubby and I are both tall, and I come from a tall family (my dad is 6'2 and my sister is 5'11), so it's not surprising Maddox would inherit that.

Anyway, my doctor said growth can actually slow toward the end. So a baby measuring in the 95th percentile at 30 weeks might only be in the 80th percentile by birth.

Will they scan you again nearer to your due date? I'm supposed to have another one at 34 weeks.

I'm not sure what percentile ours is in but our LO has been measuring 2 weeks ahead in length and the MW says he will be a long baby haha x

i have the opposite issue.. my LO is measuring under the 10th percentile in his femur. Theyre saying hes gonna need genetic testing once hes born to see if he has some sort of skeletal dysplasia or dwarfism....or if hes just short as hell (which i dont get as DH is 5'7'' and im 5'10'' ad im the shortest person in my family, even with the women. Were mainly all 6'2'' to 6'11''!!! And DH's family are normal and not short at all either, just not massive like my family lol)
