Hi.
Just looking for a bit of advice if anyone can help. My twin are in seperate sacs with their own placenta.
Twin one has low fluid. It was at normal levels right up Until 32 weeks. When they measured it at 2.5cm then measured are 2.2cm and today measuring at 5.3. The report says its still low at 5.3 as there is only one pocket of fluid where as twin twos fluid is measuring the same but he has three pockets.
The sonographer also mentioned that the membrane around twin one is hugging her. When I asked if he could explain he said the membrane is is right up close to her as in hugging her body. This could potentially restrict her growth. Which they have also noted on the 32 weeks scan that her growth and weight, although in normal range is on the small size.
I am also being monitored as twin one is having reduced movements.
All other checks e.g heart rate, placenta, major organs etc are all ok.

What I'm wanting to know is
1-the membrane that is hugging her is this a major problem?
2- if fluid keeps increasing will the membrane become bigger so it won't be hugging her as much?
3- the "pockets" of fluid they measure why as twin one only got one? Is this a potential problem?
4- is it the fluid that could be slowing twin ones growth down with it being or because the sac is so tight round twin one?

Thanks for any advice/info give x

I had a singleton pregnancy with PPROM at 14 weeks, healed at 24 weeks and Oligohydramnios (low fluid) throughout. I ranged from 1.2cm to 3cm even went to 12cm at one point but was mostly around 3cm. Normal is 8cm and above so yes you're still low. I carried onto full term (3 days overdue) and had an uncomplicated labour.

I can't really comment on a lot as our situations were different but my son was also close to his membranes, it happens with low fluid and he's ok. If the fluid increases it should move the membrane out though I'm not 100% sure.

As for the pockets of fluid they usually measure the 4 corners of the womb but you have 2 babies in there so I guess they were only monitoring what they could see. It's likely you have other pockets with 8cm+ fluid in them.

I think it's a bit of both growth wise. Babies in utero keep replenishing fluid by drinking it in and their kidneys convert their wee to amniotic fluid. I wouldn't panic too much it's obvious they're going to keep a good eye on you and you are so close to giving birth. Good luck :hugs:

Thanks sequeena for your reply! I'm tying not to worry but it's hard not to especially when I just don't understand everything that's going on. The docs n everyone are really good but there's that much to take in I get my self confused!
They are on about delivering any time after my scan on wed if there is no growth n fluid is still low. But that as well worried me as I will only be 34 weeks!

You would have the steroid injections if you were to give birth soon I think. It's scary but you'd only go to 37 weeks or so anyway with twins. You're at a great gestation so I'm sure everything would be fine :hugs:

Yea I've already had two steroid injections just incase I have to deliver early! I suppose when you look at like that I would only be three weeks away from 37 weeks doesn't seem as bad when I look at it like that.

It's scary because you have 2 to think of but I'm sure you can get to 35 weeks at least x

Well just thought I would give a little up date. Twin one as now put on a decent amount of weight and the consultant who is keeping a close eye in me is wondering if the original measurements were incorrect. She's still smaller than twin two but it's no longer a big concern. Twin ones fluid is still low at 2.2 and they are keeping a really close eye on that. I'm now booked in for a section on the 12th as I will be 36 weeks and she doesn't want to push me any further x

Thanks for the update, it all sounds very reassuring. Hope to hear from you once your LOs are here :)

Thank you for the update :) as PP said much more reassuring. 36W will be great!
