Hi everyone i live in the east of england with my dog ducks and wonderful boyfriend. I feel so young and healthy (apart from today as i have a sore throat from hell) i am dpo 6 today and have some cramps and feel achy all over. I have just joined this site after ttcing for about a year now.i am constantly being told that cocieving at my age is likely to take longer or may never happen at all but i am fast developing blinkers to the depressing statistics and choose to believe in my body and what intuitively feels right! I so want to start chatting to ladies going through this journey and have lots to share.::flower:

hello and welcome :)
there are loads of us in our 40's trying to conceive. you are not alone!
Oh, and a sore throat around 6dpo can be a good sign!!
Lots of luck
Jo xx

I want to say good luck to you!
My journey with all of this started with me feeling completely optimistic that my body would do what it was "meant" to do and I was only 38. I then started taking tests and then surgery and one ivf cycle and became reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaly depressed. Now I am almost 40 and I feel I have come full circle again to the optimistic feelings I had when I didn't know anything about what was really going on inside my body (not that you ever really know anything for sure!).
For a boost, sometimes I look on Fertility Friend at charts of pregnant women my same age and older and it makes me feel better.
I am reading Three Majic Words, it has nothing to do with fertility, but about universal mind and intent and meditation, it's really cool and my fertility specialist recommended it.
Take care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aw thankyou ladies i was really pleased to see that i had two responses ! I joined this site today after stalking it for ages and i am already feeling not so alone. Re the sore throat i have had it on and off for about a week now but last night it woke me up argh! I asked my doctor on mon to refer me to a fertility specialist as we have been doing everything we can for the last year and nothing has happened yet. My doctor told me not to get to stressed about ttc and that 45 isnt old " bless him" he is currently doing his own research into progestrone supplements as he admitted he was "in the dark" when i asked him to prescribe them tee hee . Anyway i am occupying myself with rearing four ducklings abandoned by their mum at the moment they seem to have imprinted on me my boyfriend and the dog !

I have just ordered a copy of three majic words from amazon, i love the internet x

Hi Piggie...sorry for the delay in replying, been busy working!! I am OV today I think, but I have accepted now, at almost 43, that it might not happen again, and that I am very lucky to already have 4, my youngest being 16 months. I simply take it easy now, I sort of have an idea when OV ing but dont 'make sure' we have sex, just do it if we feel like it. I dont test much anymore either! Plus i have booked our wedding for april!!
Thats a lovely quote, thank you xx
How long have you been trying?
xx

Wishing you all the best! I just had my baby last November at the age of 44. I am now 45 and the baby is 10 months old.

It wasn't easy, but it happened. We did not have the money to spend on a lot of interventions, so just did things that are free like charting ovulation and I also laid with my legs elevated for 30 minutes after sex. It took 4 years and 3 miscarriages. Many, many times I sat myself down and said, "look, this just isn't going to happen." My husband actually wanted to stop trying after the last miscarriage was...awful.

We have an 8 year old son and I just couldn't take limited funding away from him to pursue IVF, etc., not with our level of income.

We consider ourselves very, very lucky.

I wish you success in your journey.

I just wanted to say that recently I went to see my doc about something unrelated to ttc and completely broke down and told him that i was on my 18th cycle ttc and couldnt take anymore - he was shocked that i hadnt talked to him before and i explained that i told the nurse 6 months ago and that she had told me after 38 there is nothing they can do so i didnt bother with the doc

he was appalled! he showed me a folder which stated the guidelines for fertility is max 39 but at 43 he would still refer me. he told me that more and more of his patients are becoming first time mums in their mid 40's and plus.

last friday i had an appt with the fs who did a blood test for everything and is arranging for an HSG - I just need to call when its cd1

sorry for rambling but dont give up - there are some lovely ladies on here who have tried having been told not to bother by their doctors and they have gone on to become mums - its pple like that, that keep me going

Its a hard and long journey but look at what you get at the end of it

xx

Absolutely! My OB was of no use whatsoever. He was very discouraging. When I finally did get a pregnancy that "stuck", I found a new OB to see me through the rest of the pregnancy. Too many of them just won't do a thing for you if you're over 40.

I am another in her 40s TTC. Currently 41 and met my DH when I was 37. We have been serious TTC for our first baby over the past few months but NTNP for 3 years before that. We have a fertility specialist appointment next month.

Good luck Piggie and everyone on this thread.
You are so positive and I am sure you will make good mums. Piggie you can practise on the duckies , how cute.
Please keep us uptodate with your progress. I am 38 and TTC.
baby dust to you all xx

p,s vintage loved your positive story. Am in a similar situation re finances...we need to go natural or maybe clomid or something if it comes to that but no IVF or even IUI unfortunately....so I am really hoping everything with my body. recovering from d and c 3 months ago and hormones still out of whack. had a weird 20 day cycle for the first time so now I am worried. Even the ovulation sticks costs a lot. Charting might be something I need to do but I am avoiding that. hate numbers.

Rose, dont worry about the short cycle, its prob just your body recovering - my cycles are very short and when i showed my charts to the FS he didnt seem that worried about the average being 20-21 days

the only thing it mucked up was when he did the blood tests as he kept calling them cd21 and i was explaining to him that cd21 for me is af day lol

Have you looked online for OV sticks - i found a great website but i think they only deliver to UK but look around online as they are very cheap - i currently get a vial of 25 for £2.99 plus postage

charting is very easy - you dont have to take your temps to chart - lots of ladies dont - they just use it to note when af is due and it gives them an idea on when ov is due - temping is easy, i do it vaginally as i tend to sleep with my mouth open and vaginally is more acurate

Hello Ladies,
I have just joined a few minutes ago and it is refreshing to know that there people like me- the over 40 group trying to conceive. I hope we can share and encourage each other on this journey. I try to be positive and hopeful despite those stats that are thrown around as though every woman's body is the same.
I have issues with High FSH and LH but am concentrating on organic diet in the past 2months to try and correct my body naturally. Been trying to conceive for about 1yr now. My HSG in july showed i had normal ovaries, uterus and open tubes though the left one "appeared dilated" whatever that means. I am also diabetic but controlled on insulin and metformin tabs twice a day. My doc thinks i have a chance if i stop stressing. My prolatine levels were also out of whack in Jan, came down with no meds in July reading but seem more elevated than july though in normal range for this sept.
So it is a nightmare to have everything in a straight line. I have ovulation issues for the most part,...this month's 21cd was a 2.7! normal range but i guess too low. So wish me good luck......good luck to you too....

Hi Vintage67,

Congrats!! that is very encouraging news! Am in your age group and sometimes feel like giving up. Until a year ago i had the most regular and predictable periods. Then out of th clear blue i have all sorts of issues, hormone imbalance and all. So your testimony has made my day. Like you. we do not have the funds for expensive interventions so we are lying on the best we can have, diet and of course prayer. Things do happen....waiting for that miracle baby next year in the name of Jesus. I hope i will look back on this post and PRAISE GOD! . Take care.

I hate to read and fly. You are in good company, and I am one of them! :).

will post more in a bit - when I can
