I know I have it all booked for 9th feb cause I'll be 24WK+6. I was just wondering if having one just after 20WK would be as good? I know it's recommended after 24WK but I can't wait to find out the sex!!

I'm pretty sure you can find out the sex at your 20 week scan. I haven't had one but from what I have seen you get the best detailed pics when the 4d scan is done in 3rd tri or close to. Either way it'll be exciting

You can have 2 scans hun ... you can having a sexing scan that is cheaper & a 4D scan. 4D scan wise our 28 week scan was much better than the one we had at 24 weeks

At the hospital we go to we got 4d scans twice, they just do them there for some reason (it's a really high tech hospital, we're in Korea right now since the hubby's in the army), anyway we had one of them for our 20 week scan and they could have told us the sex since it's a lot clearer with the 4d but it's against the law in Korea to tell you the sex before 30 weeks, luckily we go to an army doctor too and they were able to tell us =]

I think the recommended time is somewhere between 28-32 weeks (if you look around on 4d scan sites at their FAQ, you will find out for sure). We had ours quite late, about 35/36 weeks I think? (I don't remember now, but it was late I know that) and it wasn't such great quality, but still lovely photos.

Not too early, not too late as there isn't a lot of fluid around baby.. just remember that!

I was looking into this lastnight since I won't be able to get one with my doctors U/S. Thankfully found a private clinic that does it here and I'm going to be booking it on Monday. On their site it said the best time to get it done is between 28-32 weeks. I'll probably be getting it done around the 30ish week mark. Sooo excited, they even give you a bear that has your baby's heartbeat, so you can hear it anytime you want. I thought that would be a great keepsake

Maybe you can test the waters with your sonogropher.......we was with a hospital the first time round that would not tell you the sex, but our sonogropher was lovely and we got on great and she gave us a little pointer about there being nothing to indicate a boy test 'em out hun! https://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n86/no1tam/remoteImage-178.gif

Otherwise, don't waste your scan on the sex hun as you can still find the sex out at the scan in Feb, I know you will have to wait longer, but it will be worth the wait hun! x

hi. the later on in your pregnancy you have the 4d scan done the better. the place where i went only did it between 27-30wks cos thats when the fat cells have built up and baby looks more like a baby. i had it done at 29+5wks. i would google 4d pics and you will see the difference. x x

i agree its worth the wait =---- wait until ur 28+ weeks and then do a 3d/4d if u like--- but trying to get one now is too early and most places wont do it this early --- i did my 29+3 ultrasound last week and found out my baby already had a full head of hair=== of course explains all this heartburn i've been having ---and of course the pic really looks like a baby face --- i also looked up 3d/4d ones online and found taht they really do look a lot like what ur baby will look like when he/she is born

so save the 18-20 week ultrasound for the sexing and checking all the vital organs and all that and then if u still want a 3d/4d one get it after 28 weeks
