Hello everyone, my baby was born on Tuesday weighing 5lbs and 3oz at 37weeks + 1. He was born early because of his weigh and also because I was low on the amniotic fluid. He's fine and didnt need nicu, came back to my room the same day and we took him home 2 days after (c-section birth).

My OB said she's not concerned and because he's small doesnt mean he will be a small baby but I am. Hes really adorable and I'm so happy to have him! he is latching well, gets a bit tired when sucking but he's not doing badly. I just need to get some words of encouragement from moms that have the same experience. Thanks for reading :)

Oh hon! Congrats!! DD was born during my 37th week and she weighed 5lb 17oz. Both her dad and I are short and smaller framed so doctors weren't worried about that.

Size doesn't really matter. Well it does haha but I mean that is a fine size! If your pediatrician isn't worried, then neither should you be :-)

I have no experience, but I am looking at a preterm birth, but my baby is estimated to be bigger for his gestation. I just wanted to say congratulations on your little boy.

I know of a baby who was 5lb odd at 40+ weeks and he's now one and doing great, he was just small :)

My first baby was born at 37+4 weighing 5lbs13 and is doing great. She caaught up very quickly and has been growing along the 50th centile

Congratulations! I don't have much advice about low birth weights but my niece was born at 36 weeks and she was completely fine, the doctors didn't even treat her as pre-term. I'm sure if they've let you go home you have nothing to be especially worried about, try to enjoy it x x

Thank you everyone...I was just worried about my little boy and want everything to be ok with him. I cant wait to see him start gaining weight.

I had my little boy at 35+5 and he weighed 4lb 9oz, he is 5 weeks old on wednesday and weighed 6lb 2oz when we got him weighed last week so is putting on weight amazingly x

I gave birth just under 2 weeks ago to my second daughter. She arrived at 37+5 weighing 5lb 5oz. I was induced due to her growth below 10th centile and gd. She was 0.4th centile at birth.

like you, i was able to keep baby with me and go home just over 24hrs later, shes taken to breastfeeding really well and by 10 days old had regained her birth weight and more and was 5lb 8oz :D

the only problem is me. Because she was small i feel like im a bit over protective and worry about her a lot.

OH you totally got that right!! I'm so protective over my son and when he cries I cry :(. At first I thought it was my fault because I gave up on the prenatal vitamins which made me sick until my OB told me that he's just a small perfect baby. Thanks for sharing the story about your daughter, it encouraged me.

Hi,
My daughter was born at 37+2 weighing 4lb 10oz and was estimated to be 5lb 2 days earlier. Similar to you I was induced due to lower amniotic fluid. She's doing great and at 2 weeks old had gained half a pound per week so far. I was also induced due to reduced cord flow perhaps due to my blood pressure. I'm not convinced i would've had a 8lb baby as my growth chart suggested, im only 5 3" tall and was a small baby myself - the community midwives have agreed. I am sure your baby will thrive,it certainly was the best thing to be born a little R.
Congratulations xx

My little boy was 6lb at 37 weeks try to relax and enjoy him as a tiny baby because it doesn't last long ! My little boy is 6 now and in age 8-9 clothes he's the tallest in his class and solid ! Just because they are small at birth doesn't meant he will be small xxx

My little boy went for his pediatric visit 8 days after birth and now weighs 5lbs and 7oz!!! He was 4lbs and 15oz at time of discharge which was 5 days before his appointment. I was surprised and so was his pediatrician. He's feeding well on breast milk and I'm so happy! :cloud9:

I will continue to post his progress just to encourage others. Thanks everyone

Thank you for posting this, i know every baby is differant but they measured my baby at being on the 10th percentile line and estimates him a 5lb 1oz, im 37 weeks on monday but there is talk of inducing me over the weekend and I was quite worried. :flower:

My 4th baby was born at 37 weeks weighing 7lbs 11oz. So glad I didnt go 2 weeks over! No problems after apart from a bit of jaundice x

Firstly, congrats on your new arrival :) secondly, I was born full term at 5lb6oz due to undiagnosed problems with my mothers placenta and my umbilical cord, here I am today perfectly healthy, went through primary and secondary school top of all my classes :) good luck x

Birth weights don't mean a lot. Years ago 5lb was an average size but babies are getting bigger I know lots of people with babies born around that size and they are now on the 50th centile, they all catch up, please don't worry about it x
