My son hates tummy time and always has. i had to teach him how to roll from front to back as he used to just faceplant the floor and scream. so now when i put him on his front he just straight away rolls onto his back! which means hes getting a pretty flat head (cant roll back to front, but almost and pretty sure even if he could he wouldnt cuz he hates his front lol) too. will he learn to crawl? ive tried showing him how to crawl by moving his arms and legs, same way i showed him how to roll. but not sure if im meant to show him or leave him to work it out himself? worried if i do that that hell never learn.

my LO hated tummy time but figured out rolling on her own around 5 months and was properly crawling by 6 1/2 mmonths. don't worry!

Neither of my boys did much tummy time, they hated it.
Tobias pulled up and cruised at 10 months, crawled at 11 months and walked unaided at a year.
Alexander pulled up and cruised from 8 month 2 weeks months and started crawling last week at 9 months 2 weeks. He's going to be walking before a year I think.

Oh, and neither rolled in any shape or form until they walked!!

Dont worry about it, he is still so young, my lo absolutely hated tummy time, so I never really pushed it on him as he was quite chilled out and loved being on his back, he eventually learned how to roll at about 7/8 months and then quickly moved to crawling and then standing on his own and is now walking flat out!!!!

On the other hand my friends little guy is about a week older than my lo and he was crawling really young at about 4/5 months but he is still not standing on his own and no were near walking, goes to show each child is different but they will get there at their own pace!!!

x

Does he like sitting up? Does he like being held in a standing position? Those both exercise the same muscles. And not every baby crawls. Maybe he'll learn to scoot! Or maybe once he has the strength to hold himself up on all fours, he'll get over his aversion. Maybe not. It's hard to tell. Either way, I wouldn't worry. If he's showing signs of delay, I'd worry, but I wouldn't blame a lack of tummy time. Also remember that there's quite a range for when babies start to crawl.

It is totally normal for babies to dislike being on their tummies. Mine hated it so much that I gave up on tummy time. I always worried how she was ever going to learn to roll over or crawl, but they do it in their own time when they are ready. It just clicks. Mine rolled over finally at 7 months and was then happy being on her tummy. In time she crawled and then walked, proving me wrong as I was convinced she would never learn to do anything because of her hating tummy time. So don't worry, it's normal and your LO will learn in his own time! :)

thanks everyone :) he loves sitting and can hold his own weight well on his legs (i just put my hand on his bum for support and his hands on the sofa and he can do about 10 second before his legs give in lol). he cant fully sit on his own yet but is pickin it up pretty fast. youve all made me feel a lot better, thank you. i just see all these 6 month old army crawling and mums saying they take their eyes off them for a second and theyve moved and my boy isnt even close to that! but like u ladies said, maybe he will just do it in his own time :) x

My LO is almost 7 months and hates tummy time, shows no interest in crawling. I was also worried but reassured by others on here that it doesn't mean she won't crawl. Although she may decide to skip crawling and just get up and walk.

Try not to worry (I know it's hard). He'll get there when he's ready.

Hi hun, my little one is 28 weeks this week and he used to hate tummy time too! This week though he has started rolling from back to front ( to back to front etc...!) and staying on his front a bit more. He is also starting to lift his knees up as if he wants to be on the move.. I don't think it will be long for him - I'm sure your little one will be the same.

To be honest I can't take the credit for this as I think nursery have been really trying to get him on his tummy this week and this must have helped as last weekend he couldn't roll from back to front at all.

As soon as I put mine on the floor right now she rolls on her tummy and can't get off whines 2 mins later because she hates being on her tummy ... She doesn't sit unaided yet either blah.

Mine hated tummy time so i never bothered with it. i didnt really see the point in making her do something that set her off crying. One day.. just before she turned 7 months..i looked up and she was crawling towards the TV :) I dont think it matters at all!

My LO is not a fan of tummy time, he will be 7 months on 18th I figure he will crawl when ready as my first did not crawl she just went straight to walking.

Mine hates it and just started learning how to butt shuffle. I'm convinced he'll never crawl now (I mean not before walking; I'm sure SOMEDAY he'll crawl :haha:), because he won't be motivated to if he has another way to move around, but I think it's fine! It's just a different developmental track.
