I'm at my wits end and really starting to worry. I moved ashlynn onto formula last week and she is now almost completely on formula, maybe 1 bottle of breast milk a day while I dry up. She used to drink in excess of 32oz of breast milk a day, since being on formula is more like 20-24 oz a day. I'm so freaking worried she's not getting enough! She's just increased her solid intake but she really needs to drink more! I really fight with her to get her to drink milk, she really fights it. I end up waiting till she's drowsy then she'll drink it, but that's gonna form a bad habit! She still wakes several times a night to feed, and I don't mind at the moment coz at least I can get more milk into her. She won't drink more than 4 oz at a time, and we really struggle with that!

Gonna go get her weighed next week and speak to the health visitor about it all but I'm really stressing myself out! Any advice?

My lo has always taken very little milk, she was weaned at 17 weeks due to reflux so was happier with a tummy full of food. Even now I think she has around 15oz max per day!

I've spoken to lots of health visitors about this as I was so worried but she just won't take any more. I just make sure she has a few milk based foods during the day too, fromage frais, cheese sauce, custard etc. I think it's only this past week that I've given up worrying about it! She's putting on weight, has a balanced diet and vitamins so really she's doing fine!!

I thought they were supposed to feed less on milk once they started solids??

she will take less milk hun if she is having solids. My little guy hardly drank any milk once onto his solids... lucky if he took 3 5 oz bottles a day. When their tummy is full they just dont need the extra milk that they used to. Is she on a follow on milk i.e from 6 months plus.

I advice deffo go get her weighed and as long as shes putting weight on steadily then theres no need to worry yourself :) She will take what she needs. Try as pp said make sure she has a few milk based products as meals.. and if you make mashed potatoe... make it with her formula milk. Thats what i had to do for my lil guy but that was due to weight gain issues he'd had from birth xx

At her 6 month visit with her dr jordans dr said that as long as she was getting 20 oz or so per day not to even give her formula in a sippy cup, to only offer water in her sippy cup. That she doesnt need more formula than that. She normally has about 24 oz a day.

Megan never had more than 20 oz in a day after starting solids for sure. She was closer to 15 oz some days.

I wouldn't stress about it.

I just looked at a carton of formula and it suggests 3x7oz bottles for a baby on solids - so 21oz a day. Seems like your LO is within that range so I wouldn't worry to much especially if she is getting on well with solids. If you are worried offer dairy products as part of solids such as yoghurt and cheese.

Thanks ladies. Got her weighed and spoke to health visitor and she's not worried about her. She's still gaining percentiles as well... Least I know she's doing ok!

Glad the HV put your mind at ease. I was told that when LO is on solids, and after 6-7m, they can safely drop down to 14-21oz a day (granted this was when Earl was a baby lol) alongside their solids. As long as she's happy and gaining weight steadily then there really isn't anything to worry about.
