I'm sorry I don't have experience with RA but didn't want to read and run. Have you spoken to your doctor about medication etc and what you can take while TTC? x

thanks for replying hun it means a lot.
yes they have one of them is a big no no

I have arthritis too, although it's not RA. My SIL has extremely severe RA and has had every treatment under the sun to try and get it under control. One of the most common treatments is methotrexate, which a lot of women here will know as the drug they're given to medically manage a miscarriage, so I'm guessing that's the one that's a big no no.

Have you been refered to a rheumatologist? If so when you speak to them, just tell them that you're TTC and don't want to take anything that will affect any pregnancy and they'll try and recommend some different drugs, although they may not be as effective at controlling your symptoms. My SIL has had accupunture and a TENS machine which helped her in the short term.

There are some good arthritis support sites, it might be worth having a look for one of them that has a forum and you can speak to someone else in your situation. Arthritis Care is a good site but I don't think it has a forum. Apparently once you do get pregnant your arthritis can go into remission although it comes back once you've given birth, I wasn't pregnant long enough to really see but I'm sure I was a bit better.

i was wondering if it is known if ra can cause mc ???????????
i will go and have a look at some sites :hugs:

RA is an auto-immune disease and therefore there can be other underlying auto-immune conditions that 'may' be causing the MC. Perhaps they can check for "sticky blood" symptoms to start with?

Steroid (Prednisolone) is often used to treat but the side-effects can be unpleasant in the long run. I've been on prednisolone (for lupus) since 2004, a real life-saver but side-effects are starting to show!!

Remember to speak to your doctor on other options available in view of TTC.

It is hard but don't give up! :hugs::hugs:

thanks hun , i really think ra is causing or is involved with my mc, ive had 2 tests done for my sticky blood and they have came back ok.
my dr as told me to think about having corticosteroids, hydroxychloroquine or sulfasalazine

Slurpie is absolutely correct. I suspect that there is an underlying immune reason for your miscarriages. Please ask your Dr. For the immune blood panel. If they won't do it I can tell you who will. I just had that blood panel done and sure enough, they found I was positive for one of them.

thank you so much for that, i will have to ask for the blood panel testing but do you know if they do it in the uk. what will they do for you now knowing somthing is wrong xxx
and im so sorry about your losses xxxxx

Thanks Cia. I know they do it in the uk But I doubt nhs will pay for it. You may have to go private but please consider doing it. Your history sounds a lot like mine. It cost me $766 us. I haven't been able to see my specialist since the diagnosis but I just requested a consultation with a recurrent loss specialist. From what I have read my treatment will probably consist of intravenous immunoglobin, intralipids, and/or steroids. I'm really sorry for all your losses too. Please don't give up, this can be fixed and has a high success rate.

I'm currently taking hydroxychloroquine. My consultant told me it was fine to take while TTC although I'd need to stop taking it when I got pregnant which is what I did. My arthritis is relatively mild so that along with naproxen has been enough for me. Have you been given any NSAIDs?

ive had a steroid injection twise but it doesnt help, i hate taking medications when ttc

NSAID is a non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drug. It might be worth looking into something like that (naproxen is one of them). I've read that chronic inflammation, even with something as simple as mild gum disease, can affect your fertilty so it's probably best to have some sort of treatment, that's safe to take while TTC.

Ask your doctor about things like accupuncture (I've heard a lot of women say that it increases the chances of IVF working so it can't be bad to have when trying naturally and might even help). My SIL got it at the pain clinic she went to. She's also been given all kinds of supports and had adaptions made to her home so that life is that little bit easier for you. She's a member of a local arthritis group and has found out what sort of help she can get through that group, since every area is different.

my dr as told me to think about these corticosteroids, hydroxychloroquine or penicillamine. im also going to have accupuncture because i also suffer with a bad back so ive got to start that in october

I was diagnosed with JRA when I was a teen. I recently had a miscarriage and this was one thing that I was wondering if that was one thing that coule have caused it. I am currently unmedicated as NSAIDs do not help me. My doc had put a time limit of July on me being able to TTC before I had to go back on methotrexate but I ended up getting pregnant right before. Now that I've had a miscarriage I'm half afraid to call back and tell them! Ugh. I will bring it up on my next visit which is probably going to be I'm October and if they have any information that could help I can pass it along to you if you like. Right now I don't have any information.

Iam so sorry about your loss Hun and sorry about the time limit. My dr said the same I will have to think a out things if I get worse but there is no way I'm stopping ttc. I would be really grateful if you kept in touch I need as much info as I can get. I've got to go to see someone about all the mc I have had but I haven't had an appointment come through yet so I will let you know xx

I sent you a friend request so we can keep in touch. I have to see a new gynecologist tomorrow for a 2 week check up about the miscarriage (flat refuse to see the horrendous woman who seen me in the ER again and my gynecologist just retired :( boo) but I will ask her if she knows any thing on the issue as well. I'm not hopefull that she would.

I've added you Hun, I hope you get some answers. Let me know how you get on.
How are you feeling otherwise xx

What medication are you on Sweet xx

I'm doing much better now mentally. My OH has a very low sperm count so getting pregnant was a shock that it happened so I took it pretty hard when we lost the baby. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for you losing 6.

Physically my arthritis seems to be flaring up a little. My hips are sore and knees as well. Nothing unmanagable but uncomfortable. How active is your RA?

Currently I am only taking Metformin (I have PCOS and do not ovulate without it). I am on no Meds for JRA. I have taken Naproxen years ago and another NSAID before the Methotrexate. The NSAIDs dont seem to do much for me. I know a lot of people who they help though.

Are you being refered to a Rheumatologist? I know I had a 4 year wait list after I turned 18 and had to switch from pediatric to a regular Rheumatologist but I also live in an area of Canada where there arent many around.
