Hey everyone. I went in last Thursday for my first u/s. If my dates were correct, I should have been six weeks and six days pregnant. While I was there the lady doing my u/s kept having me hold very still and holding my breath. She then had someone else come in to see if she could read it any better. They both then left (which left me completely confused and terrified) and when they came back in they had my doctor on the phone. She told me that they could not detect a heartbeat. She asked me if I have had any bleeding or cramping and I said no (STILL haven't) and she told me that it would probably start over the weekend, that I was more than likely going to miscarry.
I was completely broken hearted! How could my baby measure the exact size it should be, but be dead?!
We have a plan of action for this week. I had blood work to test hcg done Friday, I am getting more done Tomorrow. And then I go in for another u/s Thursday.
Has anyone had this happen to them?
Was it just too early?
I still haven't had any bleeding or cramping what so ever, and I still have ALL of my pregnancy symptoms.
I am praying that the baby was just too small :(

I haven't had that happen, so I can't speak from experience there, but I can tell you that my first US was at 6 weeks 4 days going from my lmp. While my doctor was able to find a heartbeat, it was very slow and we weren't able to hear it. We could see it on the screen, though. He said that considering what the rate was, there had probably only been a heartbeat for about a day. We saw it probably about the earliest we could have, and had I gone a day earlier, we probably wouldn't have. I don't want to give you false hope, but you're right around the same time, so it may be possible that you were just early. I hope that's the case :hugs:

I really hope that that's the case. I've read so many different stories so my heart is torn on how to really feel right now. I'm just praying and trying to stay happy for now.

You should ask for an internal u/s they are more accurate, fingers crossed for you

I know how hard it is but try and keep positive. A lot of people don't see it hear bubs heartbeat until late, 6+6 is still very early babe. I went in for my first ultrasound 2 wks ago at what I thought was 7+1 however all the tech seen was a 'healthy yolk sac' but no bub so I have another ultrasound today. I have a tilted uterus which sometimes makes it harder to spot bub earlier on and I also may have ovulated later then I thought so will find out today. I have previously have 2 mc so trust me I know how much the waiting kills you but we just have to be positive. Positive thoughts go a long way :) Good luck babe I hope it all works out for you x

Not sure if this will help but I recently just found out I was pregnant and for some reason I started bleeding but no cramps so my doctor suggested I go to the ER. When I got there they did blood work and an u/s. my HCG levels were 22,829 i think, and for my ultra sound she told me that the sac is were it is suppose to be but it was to early to see a heart beat. i was told like 7/8 weeks.....so as of right now nobody knows why I'm bleeding I have to go back for more blood work and more ultra sounds to make sure its not a misscarry

Oh honey. :hugs:

Can I ask real quick - was this an external scan or a trans-v? Lil bean could very well just still be too small honey.

Similar thing happened to me - scan at what I thought was 6 weeks showed nothing but a thickened lining. Was told I was either having an ectopic or (my favourite~~) a "bad" pregnancy. Scan two days later showed a 7mm sac and bloods showed doubled hcg levels. I have another scan on Friday and I'm really really hoping I see bubs, although I'm deliberately not getting excited.

It really really could just be too early. And honestly I think your US tech was both cruel and irresponsible to say that too you. :growlmad: They aren't doctors and they certainly aren't God.

Big hugs babe, thoughs and prayers are with you.

If it was a trans vag u/s it would be worrisome but if it was over your abdomen i wouldnt worry at all! Some people cant hear it there til 8 weeks!

:dohh: Ok... Operation Be Reassuring didn't go how I wanted it to. Sorry babes.

Even so - a hundred things could cause this - slightly off dates, a tilted uterus, hungover US tech.... I still stand by what I said - keep the faith.

And good luck. :flower:

Thank you. I'm praying I was off dates or something, anything really. I just want a healthy baby.

Days can mean anything at this point! It may just have started pumping!! Wait another week and let us know!

I had an external and internal u/s but when I told the tech about my tilted uterus she didn't do anything different to try find bubs like they have other times. For today I am booked in a specialist obstetrics ultrasound place as my doctor said 'they know what they're doing when it comes to pregnancy scans'. Just don't take what the tech says to heart, as Lady Luck said earlier they re not doctors and yet have no right to tell you that you will miscarry. No one can predict that :)

It's funny really, the last 2 weeks wait feel like nothing compared to the wait from when i woke up this morning until 2:30pm for my scan. Time is dragging :/

I was 5 w 5 d no hb..they scheduled a d n c for me two days later....yea needless to say i threw a fit ...

Wow 5 wks 5 days is really early to do that. Makes me socranjy that they would jump to that decision that early.
