To all the people who can say their LOs take 6x4oz bottles (or whatever) - is it really that regular? I couldn't even give an approximation of what DD takes - it's anything from 1 to 4oz, from 1 hour to 5 hours apart, day or night. She could take 1oz and not look for more for 5 hours, or take 4oz and then look for another 4 after an hour. Is feeding on demand always this unpredictable or is she unusually inconsistent? (She's 6 weeks, but she's always been like this)

My DD is nearly 16 weeks and she still suits herself. She can take anything from 3-5oz bottles. She's been sleeping all night from 9 weeks and her last feed is just after 6pm, tonight she only took 3oz yet that will be her until 7ish tomorrow.

It's crazy!

If she were sleeping through the night I wouldn't mind so much but last night she fed every hour and a half! She's getting harder to keep up with every week.

when Laila was younger this is exactly how she fed.. 3-4oz every 4 hours. i think it's just pot luck hun.. i never had to set Laila into a routine as she already made her own and still has it now.. she feeds every 4 hours and sleeps 12 x

That's exactly what Rosie isn't doing though! She'll go anything from 1 hour to 5 between feeds, it's totally unpredictable. I loved when it was every 3 to 4 hours, but these days I can put 4oz into her and not know whether she'll sleep for 5 hours or look for another bottle in an hour. She could take 8 or 16 feeds in a day, there's just no knowing what to expect!

I know its not for everyone, but have you tried a dummy rather than another bottle after an hour??? it could be a comfort thing rather than hunger.

either that or she could be going through a growth spurt and will settle into a regular pattern soon enough.

DD1 was at least 12 weeks old when i realised she was falling into a routine of regular feeds every 3 hours etc.

:hugs:

Gaby has always been on four hourly feeds. You could set your watch by her and she has never moved from this. She is currently taking 4 8oz bottles a day, I introduced solids for one meal last week and thought this would throw her off routine but no, still a four hour girl!

PQ, we use a dummy. Sometimes she loves it, sometimes she'll make a disgusted face, spit it out and lean into me trying to breastfeed, stick her fingers in her mouth, and slap herself in the face - those all seem to be her food cues. Maybe I'll try harder though.

Sugarmuppet, you have my dream baby!

My LO has NEVER had a set routine with feeding, especially when she was younger. It was all over the place. I fed on demand so just kept a total of how much she had in a 24 hour period.

It has got a bit better but she still doesn't have a completely set routine to be honest and she's 7 months old!

Lol Thank You! She is a star when it comes to eating/sleeping. We are very lucky! Think its just your luck though, my Mum can't believe it as I didn't sleep through until I was nearly 2 and was a snacky eater. She didn't know babies came like Gaby! :happydance::happydance:
