Just looking for some advice and reassurance. My little boy is not 'double' babbling yet. He very occasionally makes 'muh-muh' sounds (usually with the assistance of his fist in his mouth, producing a muffled 'm'!), but on the whole his repetoire is about the below:

Aaah-gooo
Ooh-goo
aaaa-luh
aaa-oh
aaaah-gaaa
aaah-guh-gaaa
aaah-waaaa
aaah-buh
aaah-gaaaa-wuh
geeeh
aaah-caa

etc!

Sometimes he makes two consonant sounds like 'gleeh' and 'bwah'. He's been making all these sounds for quite a while now, since before 5 months, but it hasn't seemed to have developed much.

In other words, he's not yet properly repeating consonant and vowel sounds, e.g. 'ga-ga'.

He seems to be reaching his other milestones - he was sitting up before six months and he just started crawling 2 days ago. He started on solids at 6 months and is on 3 meals a day now.
He's a smilely, happy little boy who loves being talked and sung to. :)

The other things is that he blows raspberries but not how an adult might do it- i.e. he vibrates his lips to produce the sound but doesn't poke out his tongue to make the sounds.

Is anybody else's LO at this stage or is my little boy the only one who hasn't managed 'Mama', 'Dada' and 'gaga' yet? :( Should I be worrying?

I wouldnt worry too much Lucas is the same. He has never said mama or baba despite me repeat them all to him on a daily basis. He has said dada but not for ages since. He makes lots of other noises but no babbling either.

Maybe they are just concentrating more on the physical milestones as he can sit up unaided now and is on the move. Fingers crossed. x

Samuel is the same - he screeches and babbles but is not saying mama or dada or anything along those lines yet. I have a friend with a 9 1/2 month old who is not either! Personally I am not worrying yet - all babies do things at their own speed :-)

imogen is 8 months and still doesnt say mama dada etc im not worrying about it, we keep telling her and she knows who mama and dada are she'll get there soon im sure and so will your lo.

Mine has only just said dada and mama, well moma at 9 months. I wouldn't worry at all!

My son didnt talk or make noises like dada mama til he was 2! now i cant shut him up hes 5. kids develop in thier own time.

no dont worry, not all babies can say dada, mama etc at this age and as u sed ur babys on the move maybe hes contrating on this first. as the saying goes u have a mover or a talker...lol...seems u have a mover. xx

Amazing, thank you everybody!

Obviously it isn't unusual at all :) I did wonder whether he is so busy enjoying crawling that he doesn't have time to concentrate on babbling.

Guess it's no surprise he's a 'mover' - he was a very kicky baby in the womb, lol!

Our son's first proper word was 8mths and as always 'da-da' followed shortly by 'mum-mahhh'
He was actually crawling about 5 weeks before his first word and walking at 9mths, they are all over the place!
By the time he turned 3 his vocabulary was amazing and since he started school at 5 he has always been the top reader, in year 3 books now (he has just started year one).
They are busy listening, bet once he gets going the nattering will wear you all out...

We have no signs of words, sounds or babling yet - she has just worked out how to blow a kind of raspberry and thats all!

Oh and she isn't crawling yet either, rolling only just happened - by half of the progress reports on here and babies doing so much - my little girl is very slow and a bit backwards lol!

Gabriel doesn't seem to want to bother with talking either. He's a 'mover' as well. He just started crawling (army crawl at the moment). I figure he'll figure out talking when he's ready. I was a bit worried as it seems like all lot of other babies babble more, but it sounds like I just need to chill and he'll get there eventually.

my babys dr and a book i got said its more of the 9-12 month range when they start with dada and mama etc and it did say because babies generally are crawling/grabbing toys before this age that distracts them from talking

We have no mamas etc yet, just a lot of weirdness....

I'm not worried. Not a word from Liam yet.Hhe makes "mama" sounds when he cries, but he's done that for a very long time I so I don't count it.
He's defo a mover though. Aleady pulling himself up on the furniture and trying to cruise.

Mine is nearly 9 mos and mainly screeches at the cat or little squeals...but no repetitive babbling yet. I wouldn't worry. He's still making sounds.

K was 8 months when she said dada and baba but mama she didnt say till she was nearly 10months and that was when she was crying, even now she doesnt say it loads yet dada, baba, nana, grandad and ah ah are all said often. They all grow at there own pace an you will get there soon :) xx

Carmen was saying "meh-meh" and "beh-beh" at me and DH, but she seems to have forgotten it lately in her quest to learn how to crawl (she's not quite there yet!). She's been experimenting more with other sounds, like gasping, fake coughing and growling! It's pretty funny actually, the weirdest sounds come out of that girl. I definitely wouldn't worry, those milestone charts are such a rough estimate and babies vary so much in the time and order they learn things. xx

Sophies only saying baba at the moment and thats only just this past few days, she is 6.5 months :)

I wouldnt worry about it, bella has only just started saying mama (nothing else) in the last month :hugs:

Funny - Anna has just turned 8 months and I am signed up to a monthly development email and it read something like 'your baby has no doubt been saying dada for the last month or so and now you might get mama'

Anna is actually quite good at 'talking'- for the last month or so she has been doing mum, mama, baba, gaga but still no dada - does dada usually come before mama (:blush:sorry, you know what I mean!!!) ??

I think she might end up being an early talker. She sits and goes ' mamagagababaamamamaagagagabab' non stop like she is having huge converstations with herself!

However she is nowhere near crawling or even knees up, just rolling and nowhere near holding up on furniture.:flower:
