I've known people whose names are alternately spelled and they usually find it to be kind of a pain, so I would seriously consider choosing something else or just going with Phoenix.

If you hadn't explained how to pronounce it, I would have read 'Fenn-Ix' not 'fee-nix'. Just something to keep in mind - if you go with alternative spellings he will spend a lot more time correcting people.

What do you mean not a misspell? I'm not trying to be a bitch, but I'm pretty sure Fenix isn't a legit name. Phoenix would have a lot less confusion. I thought it was meant to be Felix when I first read it. Elias is a fantastic name, and I'd be a little sad to see it followed with Fenix (sorry, I am a major name nerd).
