8.5 months not really wanting bottle anymore

HI

My LO is 8.5 months and has been bottle fed formula since he was 3 days old. he has always done well on it.

The last two weeks or so he is a nightmare though, he decided he hates his afternoon bottle - just gums the teat and pushes it away, but now he has also gone on morning milk strike too.

i have tried giving it him in a cup and he won't drink it, tried it at different times but no, he will take about 2 ounces max. He will drink about 5 ounces before bed. so right now he is having about 9 ounces of mik a day (this has happened the last two days), he has milk on his cereal (so i guess that bumps him up to maybe 13 ounces a day) and he has fromage frais, cheese sauce, cheese etc. he is a healthy 22.7 lbs in weight.

i mentioned it to the health visitor and she said if he takes less than 14 ounces a day he needs extra vitamins, which i will get him...... but ideally i would like him to take his milk..... so any tips?????

i am not too sure if he is having a growth spurt as he is sleeping lots and he maybe teething too.

he drinks a bit of water, but i would not consider it enough if he is not taking formula too

What formula is he on? First stage? Could it be teething? My little one is doing the same and he's on hungry baby so switching him back to first x

He is on first stage milk and has always been fine on it, but maybe he wants a change? I think he may be teething, but then again, i have thought that for the last 3 months (dribbling etc) but still no sign of teeth

We have just worn to 2 teeth this morning! Mum said I didn't cut a tooth til 10 months old. They can start teething very early though great fun for us lol! I'd stick with first. Does he want a faster teat?

yay for teeth...... No sign of teeth here, he is on variflow teats already. Yesterday he drank a bit more milk. We are thinking we may cut back his food a bit (slightly smaller portions) to see if he will take more milk for his afternoon bottle x x

Yeah that's a good idea - have you tried letting him just have finger foods instead of mashed/purée?x

You could try follow on too it has more nutrients in less milk x

he has alot of finger foods already, but i just think he would eat and eat unless i stop him
we have cut back his food a little bit and he is still hit and miss with his bottle, sometimes taking it and other times not. He starts nursery soon so we are going to perservere for a bit longer with it just in case he decides to take it for the nursery staff.

That is a great idea, i think we will finish up the tub we are using and then switch to follow on milk x

You could try follow on too it has more nutrients in less milk x
