8 month old doesn't babble :( I feel so alone.

I hope you can ease my mind ladies. I have a son born 18/3 this year. He is now 8 months and 1 week old. I don't know whether I should be concerned or not about the fact that he doesn't babble yet. I wouldn't worry if it wasn't for all the guidelines and milestones and mothers on the Internet talking about their baby starting babbling so early. The milestones say my baby should be babbling up a storm right now with chains of da-da-da and alot of other consonants. My son doesn't do this.

He does make sounds but still only vowels like Ooohs and Aaahs. Other than the vowels he squeels and blows raspberries ALOT! This week he's been blowing them constantly it feels like. He smiles all the time and laughs too. A very happy baby.

Occasionally he will say a "Gii" or "Gaa" or "Ba" or "Ka" or something like that but it's very rare.

When I try to make him imitate me he doesn't. He just talks back something else or smiles.

Reassure me please. Any one else been or is in my shoes? Any other 'late' babblers out there?

I have told my HV about this and she just says every baby is different, and of course I know this but I want real stories. I want to see how common it is.

My son is 11 months and he was like your son until recently.. He would babble away but its was just ah ah ah oh oh.. He said mama mama alot but other then that nothing else.. Its only lately that he has really started to say dada nana baba, but he still doesnt really say much else! Alot of babies his age are saying alot more, but Im not worried at all, he will get there in his own time, and like you said just keep reminding yourself that every baby is different and try not compare him to anyone else!!

Hey, I wouldnt worry about it, My LO is 8 months next week and has onky just started babbeling (but only when he's tired) his cousin is only 8 days older and she is more advanced in some things and my LO is more advanced in others eg. My LO still not able to clap hands but his cousin has been clapping hands for ages now. They all get there in the end

Only from going to baby clubs I know that Ihsan babbles and says quite alot for his age. Theres a nice lady with a little grandson my son's age that barely says anything at all but like your son he makes vowel noises and his granny says in that way he is the opposite from his big sister who was a chatterbox but just like his dad who barely made a sound until 13months! He just stares at Ihsan when he startes babbling at him and saying words lol! Babies are all just different so don't worry at this stage he will probably just start babbling when you least expect it Ihsan just started standing on his own yesterday, I was thinking he was taking longer than usual to stand on his own because all the other little girls his age at baby club have been doing it since 9months but i wasn't worrying, all in good time xxxx

Brian only started to babble and repeat sounds in the last 2 weeks and he is only 2 weeks older then yours.
They do it all in their own time and at their own pace and once your LO starts there will be no stopping him
I had nothing 2 weeks ago and now im getting mamma, dadda, mine, nanna (not sure if he means his nanny or wants a bannana) and various copying sounds all in such a short time.
It was great at first but at 3am when he is singing to himself and chattering to his teddies while im trying to sleep it isnt so fun
Last night he wouldnt go back to sleep at 4am and because I wouldnt get up he threw his dummy over the edge of the cot and with a very sly voice said "mamma" as if to say well you have to get up now

Caitlyn was 8 months when she started saying "Maaaaaaaaamaaaaaa" At 6 months she said "Dada" for about a week and that was it.

Sometimes they just don't need to learn to talk I'd be patient with him. My daughter talks really well for her age now x

Reassuring story my mum's friend told me, not sure how true it was.

There was a girl in America who didn't' speak until she was 5. They couldn't find a reason for it. She just didn't talk. One night, her mum gave her a dinner she didn't like. Clear as day she said, "I don't like peas."

My little one was born 28/3 and he doesn't babble. He shrieks, goes aieeeeee and oooooooh a lot, and makes areally cute cooing noise, but no Mamama mumum or dada. The closest he has come to it is eh eh eh eh eh! But he smiles, laughs, raspberries, makes mwah kissing noises, so we're just going with it. He's always been quiet and cuddly rather than chatty.

I wouldn't worry too much, Harley babbled all the time from 4 months on, yet barely said a word at her first birthday and now at two I can say she's only been properly talking for a couple months. Some babies will skips steps. You never know

DS is 11 months and FINALLY started to babble just last week.

Up until this point all he did was screech like a monkey.

Alessa babbles a lot, but a friend of ours had a boy who didn't babble much at all when he was a baby. He didn't even really TALK until he was 2...but guess what? The kid is a freaking genius! He seriously is smarter than any other 2 year old Ive ever met.

Every kid is different! Don't worry!!!

Boys are usually slower with verbal communication but quicker with the more physical stuff - he'll get there in his own time

My DD is 8 months doesn't babble - just squeals.
My HV scared me at the 8 month check saying she wanted to refer to speech therapy and another hearing test. I've since said no as I feel she is too involved in trying to move and that's why she's not babbling. Nice to know she's not the only one though.
