i'm getting paranoid about my little girls weight and i wondered if there were any other mums with high percentile babies out there :)

my LO is 4 months old now and she was 19 lbs last time HV weighed her. She's always been 98th percentile, she was 9lbs 12 when she was born but i'm sick of everyone saying the same thing when they see her "oh my god shes so big!" it makes me worry about her. people think shes 6 months old already. she wears 6-9 month clothes and even some of them she squeezes into.

we started her on baby rice a few days ago because she suddenly stopped sleeping through the night. she sleeps through again now but it worried me i would give her extra weight by feeding her more :( am i being a silly first time mummy by worrying so much? haha

As long as her weight and length are round about the same percentile there's nothing to worry about.

My LO is on 98th for her length and 91st for weight, she looks way older than 4 weeks.

If your doctor isnt concerned I wouldnt be hun... your baby just sounds like a bigger baby, which is totally normal. A friend of mine delivered a baby at 10lbs 14oz and he just continues to grow. He is a healthy, breastfed baby :)

Your baby weighs as much as my daughter lol... I get the whole she is SO SMALL... what is wrong with her etc... all the time!

Hi love! Don't worry if your little girl is a little on the chubby side. It will all even itself out once she starts moving around and she will start to become more lean - they use up a lot of energy crawling around and trying to walk.

Fran was 7lbs 9oz at birth and bang on the 50th centile. She followed that for a couple of weeks and then started to spike upwards and is now midway between the 91st and 98th centiles. I had her weighed last Tuesday at 16wks 4 days and she was 17lb 7oz.

We started giving her baby rice yesterday after a discussion with our HV and I'm 100% happy with the decision. She only has a very small amount and as she builds up to eating more her milk intake will decrease to make sure she is getting just the right amount of calories.

If you are worried then have a chat with your HV but I'm sure everything is just fine.

Both my boys were big, and Charlie was just below 21lbs at 5 1/2 months. He is exclusively breast fed and just starting to taste foods even though he spits them all out. Dont worry, I get the "wow, hes huge" comments ALL the time....I usually want to say "no way! i didn't notice"
Charlie is even bigger than Mason was at the same age even though he was born at 8lbs 3oz and Mason at 10lbs! Just know shes healthy :) I would worry more if my baby was really underweight than over weight.
I have a friend with a baby at 13lbs and only a day different in age, every baby is different, dont worry :)

My baby was born at 8.25 lb (3.7kg). He piled on the weight even though he is fully breast fed, no formula. At 2 mths, he hit 16.5 lbs (7.5kg). At 2 mths 3 weeks, is now 17.6 lbs (8kg). He now wears 9 mth and some 1 yr old clothes. Always been at the 99th percentile.

I am also quite tired of hearing everyone say my boy looks big. Thankfully, it is taboo in our culture to say a baby is fat, so I don't hear that. Oddly enough, I do feel i missed my baby's 'newborn cute stage' because he just grew so fast past it.

My pediatrician is very happy that baby is big from breastmilk. He said it means he's absorbing nutrients well. Also, very healthy as he pee's and poo's a lot. Told me not to worry about the weight because most baby's taper off at 4 months.

aslong as she is only the percentile scale then no worries. my friend's baby is on 95th... yes he is big but so what! My son is just under the 75th and 20lb at 7 months BUT he is wearing 9-12 month clothing and i just bouht some 12-18 month stuff so don't worry about that bit. you are obviously just doing a great job of looking after him.

As he is bigger he may need weaning earlier than 6 months. we did at 19 weeks. BUT stopping STTN is quite normal around this age so just check it is because he is ready for food and not just sleep regestion. xxxxxxxx

My son is on the 91st centile line for his weight and he's not even on the chart for his height. I weaned him early, he was between 16/17 weeks he quickly went onto 2 meals a day and dropped a bottle, so its slowed the weight gain down. That's why the HVs advised me to wean early, it does slow things down alot. If she's taking to baby rice I would continue with it and give her some veg etc, hopefully then you will find she drops a bottle and the weight gain slows.

My son was only on the 25th line at birth, but he soon piled on the lbs.

Isobelle is on 98th percentile and weighed 15lb 15oz at 12weeks old! I was told to diet her by 1 paedeatrician then another said dont be daft you cant diet a baby and there is nothing wrong with her!

More to cuddle i say!

X

My LO is 5 months and 23lbs and 29in long. I too was concered as the doctor said he was off the charts especially for a breastfed baby but she said he is healthy and thriving and not to worry. LO was 20.5 pounds at his 4 month checkup so right about your LO.

Wow, it's shocking to hear a pediatrician tell you to diet your baby! My ped said it's perfectly fine fr a baby to be on the larger side. And
If baby is breast fed, no possibility to be obese.

Hello...

Well, my LO was 9lb 2 at birth, then rapidly gained and is now 24lb 5 at 6 months. We have been referred to a consultant about his weight as they say it is too high :( He was just under 75cm at 5 1/2 months not sure how long he is now, but off centile charts for both height and weight x

My friends baby is in the 97th percentile! She was born at 9lbs 4oz and at 2 week she was 9 lbs 14oz by week 4 she was at 11lbs 14oz! Purely breast fed!

Don't worry, all babies weights are different just like us adults! Jayden has always been a biggish baby! He was born at 8lb 6 and went from the 50th centile up to the 99.6th, then dropped to 91st by 6 months, i have no idea what he weighs now though he's feet have grown loads and he's not much shorter than his 2.5yr old cousin! lol.
I also got the whole 'OMG whats he on, miracle grow?!' comments all the time, now people don't, when someone compliments him on anything other than how big he is its a breath of fresh air! i love my chubby boy, he had 3 chins at 3 months, now he doesn't anymore :'( haha sorry i rambled on abit. xxx

I get the same thing on the opposite end of the scale. OMG Your baby is so tiny. He's on the .3rd percentile. Someone's baby has to be on each end of the scale

olivia is 90% for weight and 50 for height at 8 weeks...more to love :) doctor said shes perfect.

My baby was always big for his age but it seemed like his growth slowed down after 4-6 months. He was in size 4 pampers at 4 months and he's still in size 4's.

thank you so much ladies for all of your replies :) i know its silly but it makes me feel better to know Elsie's not the only bigger baby around.

the HV made us paranoid a while ago when she started making it sound like she was too heavy and asking me how much i fed her and how often. i was considering upping her ounces to 8 at that point and the HV looked horrified and said no. thats all very well for her to say but Elsie was still hungry after some of her feeds so we did up it in the end. we saw a different HV the next time and she was lovely about it saying "well someone has to be top of the charts" haha

i can see how people with smaller babies would have the exact same issues and worries just at the other end of the scale but i shall stop worrying now! let her be what she is, shes happy and healthy and thats the most important thing
