When making up comfort milk at night, I was thinking as the water needs to be hot, can you add say 1oz of boiling then say 4oz of milk, shake then add rest of water (cooled boiled) but will the measurements be out if I do this?

How do you make up, especially in the evenings?

Erin has 5oz so I make up all the bottles with 2oz boiled water and leave it to cool. When she needs a feed I boil the kettle and add 3oz of boiling water to get it to the right temp before adding the formula. It seems to work.

Thanks pinklizzy, I was told to use boiling water for the comfort feed to work though.

I think it needs to be hot but won't boiling water affect the nutrients in the milk?

ooh heck not sure, I read some where though, it needs to be really hot to activate it

it does need to be hot (above 70). So mixing the hot water into cold wont be hot enough as the water is instantly cooled by the cold water.

Aw thanks Pinklizzy.

Bathbabe, so is it the full bottle that has to be hot? Also I thought they recommended quick cooling? Usually I use the tt flask but lo has been sleeping through and the water has gone luke warm.

i premake all my bottles with hot water, rapid cool, pop into the back of the fridge, zap in the microwave when ready for a feed. That way, milk is sterilised, the milk is 'activated' and no waiting around. Takes less than a min to be ready x

Thanks Bathbabe, only prob is hubby says not keen on doing this, even though I have just read him the guidelines, also our fridge is outside in utility. I have mentioned getting a little fridge for upstairs, but then would need a bottle warmer.

So can I just check, I couldnt put 2oz in a bottle, add milk then shake, then add the cooled boiled water up to the amount, I understand that I would need to trial measurments as when you make up milk it goes over amount you have made, so if I didnt adjust she wouldnt get enough water. hope that made any sense lol

i guess as long as the milk goes in with the hot water and mixed then the cold added, it would work. But iv never done it so i cant really comment x
