Accrued holiday pay whilst on maternity

My employer has just paid me me holidays I accrued whilst on maternity pay along with my final Maternity pay but they have deducted the smp I got during those weeks so I have ended up with less than I thought - is this right? I was under the impression I got holiday pay on top of the SMP as my employer isn't paying me any extra over and above the basic?

I think they should just pay you holiday as if you had left your job,they cant make any deductions other than tax and national insurance.
As you could have taken your holiday at any time if you had returned to your job.

I phoned a helpline and was told they can't do that my entitlement is 39 weeks smp + accrued holiday pay at my usual rate, rang my boss and she is going to sort it out don't think she knows much about maternity pay!
