HI guys
Adam came home this morning
Thought id tell you all what happened now that i have time and everything is ok.
Thursday night i woke up to Adam breathing funny, he was breathing really hard in and didnt seem to be able to breathe out ok, so i called the out of hours doctor, she called for am ambalance as soon as i explained what was happening.
We got rushed in to hospital and Adam got seen right away, they took an xray and said he was Broncilitus and would have to be admitted coz it gets worse on day 4 of the illness.
The next day (friday) Adam got worse and needed a feeding tube and oxygen prongs in his nose, he had missed 4 feeds by this time so they had to feed him through the tube to keep his fluids up.

A few hours later he got worse again, he was really struggling to breathe so i called the nurse, she agreed he was breathing harder and his oxygen levels were dropping, he was atached to a monitor so if his oxygen levels dropped below 90 it would alarm, it kept doing this all the time so they decided to put him in an oxygen box...

a few hours later (early hours sat morning) he got worse still, it all happend so quickly, the consultant on duty told me he needed to go up to HDU and be put on a c pap machine to help him breathe, they took him up screaming and tried to put him on this machine but he didnt take to it very well

while he was there they took an xray on his chest again and saw that his lung had collapsed so they wizzed him up to PICU, this was horrible, i wasnt allowed in untill they had sorted him out so i was just pacing the corridoor outside, it was early hours saturday morning so it was empty, i was ringing Jase constantly (he was at home with Coby) but couldnt get through. At around 9ish i was allowed in to see Adam, i knew he was going to be on a ventailtor but i still didnt expect to see him the way he was, they told me Adam didnt cope with a normaly venitaltor coz when his lung shut it stuck togethger so it needed to be kept open constatly, so he was on a machine called an oscilliator, this was horrible, it keeps air in the lungs and then flutters them, i think the nurse said it does 60 brethes a minute, so it makes the babys body shake.
The last time i saw Adam he was screaming and awake, i walked in PICU to find him knocked out and paralized and looking like this...

I just sat next to him and cried for ages, by this time Jase had phoned me and i had filled him in on what happend so he was on his way in to be with us.
The next few days where a blur to be honest, the next day he had swelled up alot due to all teh fluids they were pumping in to him, and he needed 3 blood tranfusions to replace all teh blood they were taking out every hour for testing....

Day 4 was better, he was still swollen, but they had stopped the paralized drug so he was moving a bit, at one point they had to wrap his arms up coz altho he was still knocked out he was fighing and punching everyone who touched him, this was great to see coz it made us know he was still in there, they also put him on a normal ventiliator coz he was starting to breth on his own. i placed my finger in his hand and he squeezed it, best feeling ever

Day 5 was fab! he came off the normal venilitor and woke up, we made sure the first people he saw was us it as nice to see him with less tubes and wires.

Later on that day, when he was woken up more and was off all teh drugs, i was allowed a cuddle

After that he got better and better, he moved out of PICU and back down to HDU for 24 hours just to be watched closely

then the next day he was put back on to a normal childrens ward, no oxygen needed he hadnt bottle feed for over a week tho so he had forgttoen how to do it, plus his throat was very sore from the venitiltor so we had to try to encourage him to feed and then top him up through the tube

cuddles with daddy

Yesterday he started to take a bottle again, only 2oz every 3 hours tho, which isnt alot comapred to what he used to feed but after everything he went through we were just happy to see him take anything.

Adam had a bug called RSV, the docs said to adults its just a fluy/cold but to Adam is was bad, they told us lots of babies come in to the wards with broncilitus but they are RSV negitive, around 1% test positive and end up in PICU, trust Adam!
When in PICU for the first 2 days they told us they couldnt say if he would pull through, his conditions was crictial for 48 hours and it was 50/50 (there words to us) but our little man is a fighter and came through it all.
Thanks so much for your texts and messages, it meant alot to us both.
