Hey all - Found out I was pg just a couple weeks ago....I was told that I couldn't get pregnant w/o medications such as metformin, but guess I proved that wrong! At any rate, I wasn't trying to concieve (wasn't being careful either) so I have been taking my prescribed dose of Adderall all along - up until I got a BFP.

For anybody who is familiar with pregnancy and Adderall, I would really appreciate some insight on either averse affects/abnormalities resulting from and continuing taking it while pregnant. Finding information on the net is nearly impossible and it appears that docs don't even know what to tell you except for the usual liability waiver speach.

I would really like to hear from women who have perhaps either taken Adderall throughout their pregnancy, or have taken it for extended periods during the first trimester not knowing they were pg. Or if there are any nurses or medical professionals out there with some input, that would be great too. I have a pretty good case of ADHD - I am prescribed 20mgs XR in the morning, an additional 5 mgs in the morning at the same time of instant release and then 15 mgs IR around 3:00....and this is a low dose that I have chosen. I haven't been taking it for about a week now and I can't get anything done...I'm in an Economics PhD program currently and do consulting for government agencies on the side, so being productive is essential....and loosing all my productivity is killing me. Besides that, I'm worried that if I start to look "lazy" (I don't tell ppl about my condition), then the school/my advisor will associate that with the baby and won't fund me next year or this summer.

Like I said, any input from mother's who have had prior experience or medical professionals (or even second hand accounts!) would be greatly appreciated.

This can't possibly be a unique issue....sorry, bumping this up to see what happens!

Heyy!

I just stumbled upon this hope you don't mind if I share my two cents lol.
I'm currently TTC on adderall. and I was very worried about the medication and its effects. I was told by both my psych and primary care that it was a class C medication and that there has been nothing proven against it. The only thing that was bad about the medication was that it can cause low birth weight in babies. but this only makes sense since adderall is an appetite suppresent.
But they told me the choice was up to me, but they also added that the stress would be greater on my body and the baby if I stopped the medicine because I need it. This did put my mind more at ease but i'm still a little nervous to continue taking it!

So now you're probably well into your pregnancy. so I was just wondering if you continued taking it and if everything is fine?

Hello Miss... I too searched the forum to see what I could find on adderall and pregnancy, and I came across your posts - I wanted to jump in because I am looking for a valid opinion myself. Someone who has more experience than I do at least.

Someone please post to help me and Samstah out! We need some advice from you ladies! I was taking 20mg of IR adderall a day before we found out we were pregnant (around 5 1/2 weeks :happydance: :happydance:), and I have since started weening myself off (because I know that quitting any medication cold turkey will probably do more harm than good). I am now down to 10mg or less per day, but I haven't been to my first appointment yet so I am slightly nervous. I have had two miscarriages in the past, one while taking adderall and one while not taking it.

I hope both of us get some comforting words of wisdom soon! I plan on quitting the medication regardless after weening off of it, but I would still like to hear from some expecting mom's who are currently taking it while preggers, or took it during a previous pregnancy.

Thanks!

adderall is a no no during pregnancy

Its an amphetamine so its clearly not safe to take during pregnancy! it increases heart rate and blood pressure, your heart is already working harder while pregnant.. No need to put even more stress on it. Im not a doctor or anything but i have lost a family member to adderall, i have spent hours researching it and it is not good. I wouldnt recommend quitting cold turkey, as that would cause problems of its own. But maybe talk to your doctor and see if there is something else you can do or take while pregnant.
