I have been exclusively breastfeeding for 7 weeks and am hoping to do it for another 5 weeks. After that I would like to start to switch to formula. This is for several reason, mainly that i am planning on going back to work when LO is around 5-6 months and also because I find BF restrictive and would like a bit more freedom.

Some days I love BF, other days I can't wait until we are on the bottle :).

I think on Formula it would be easier to get into a routine too, as in breastfeeding I have no idea how much he is eating.

What is the best way to switch over. Should I just introduce one FF feed a day at the beginning and after a 3 or 4 days at another feed. And carry on like that until all the feeds are formula.

Also what would be the best formula to go to?

I have been expressing a bottle or two of BM every day so I know that LO will take the bottle fairly easily - I am just not sure how he will react to the different taste?

Where do you live? The brands are different from Country to country. I live in Canada and use Enfamil for my daughter.
If I were you I'd start giving a bottle of formula once a day just to get them used to it. Haha, I'd start at night time, you will be amazed at the difference in sleep you get (unless, of course, you are one of the lucky ones.) Then as you mentioned, just start adding feeds. Pay attention to you child, they'll tell you if it is too much.
The one up side to FF vs. BF is knowing how much they are taking in. I wouldn't bother making more than a 3 oz bottle at a time, at that age thats plenty of formula.
Best of luck! There is alot of freedom involved with FF that you don't get with bf.

Hi hun i might not be much help but i've just swapped from bf to ff , & before i just spent money on tins he might not take too i tried the ready made cartons. I bought a few in for emergencies anyway so thought id try one of those in a bottle, Id bought sma gold, cow n gate & aptamil , Tried sma gold 1st & he took to it straight away including the bottle. He seemed really settled on it & i bf inbetween for 2 days but gradually increased how many ff i was giving. Then last monday/tuesday i bought the big tin of sma gold & just put him on it. I never needed to try a different brand of carton.

With jax he never bothered 1 bit about taking to the bottle or the new milk, so all i can say is dont just stop bf & start ff but maybe introduce 1 or 2 feeds as ff instead of bf if you get me. Hope this helps x

added : Not sure which milk is the best as everyone will say diff , some say aptamil is closest to bf , some say cow/gate & then sma. I tried sma & have to admit he's settled really well on it. My sis in law tried cow & gate & hers were fine on it. So i guess its down to each baby hun.
