So i'm not looking to screw my ex over (as tempting as it is) but i think he may be screwing me a little!!!

I am moving with our two children back to the UK from Saudi Arabia next week. He currently plas to give me Child maintenance..... but nothing else. Obviously it takes a while for things like tax credits etc to come through as i've not claimed anything since we moved here (we're british forces so i probably could have but didn't bother).

Friends have been saying he should be helping me with set up costs seeing as im setting up a new home for our children. For example i need a bed for my daughter (aged 4) and son (aged 2) as well as a fridge freezer. We have furniture coming out of storage so i do have sme things but the things i mentioned we dont have.

Any advice would be great please.... i have no idea where to begin!!!

He doesn't legally have to help you with anything other then basic maintenance, he might be kind enough to help his children and buy them beds if you asked for help maybe?
Yes you could have still claimed all the child benefit and tax credits ( I was a forces wife myself)
Have you spoke to welfare? They may off you some help

So is spousal maintanance not a factor? A few people have mentioned it to me but i can't really find much online about it.

I've never heard anyone getting that who are from the uk, I think it's just an American thing.
I think you need to seek legal advise to really make sure what you are entitled to

I'm not sure what your legal entitlement is, but I definitely think he should be offering to help out more.

You can get spousal maintenance as part of a divorce settlement but each case is unique: https://www.findlaw.co.uk/law/family/divorce_and_dissolution/maintenance/500181.html

I believe you can get spousal maintenance if you where married?

I only know this as my mum and dad got divorced when I was young and my dad had to pay it to my mum.

Like Quartz said though, every case is different really.

Have u had a discussion with him to see what he would help you with? Good luck with the move xx

I did discuss it with him..., he refused anything aside from child maintenance. He has however helped me out since we moved 4 weeks ago by lending me money to buy a fridge!!
