advise about BMI restrictions

When we were having tests done through the NHS they said I had to lose weight before they would consider me for IVF for obvious health reasons. In the end they refused our funding because they considered 36 to be too old... even though I'd managed to lose 5st (on Lighter Life) and had a BMI of 24.6.... We're now going private and although my BMI isn't a concern any more, they will do IVF for women with a BMI of up to 35.

Wow that's awful tickledpink! Did you appeal?
I'm a bit worried they will say the same to me, I'm only 2.5 years off turning 36 myself & haven't even managed to get a referral yet, never mind an appt or my name on any waiting lists.

Thanks for the info rach, will take my notepad and take notes of what they say the goals are x

No worries Hun, I'm sure ur clinic will be heaps better as
mine treated me like a second class citizen due to my weight, even told me to imagine I had coalics disease to lose weight! Interestingly private treatment is a little more relaxed & with the cost I can't afford to eat so the pounds are dropping off

Hey hun, my BMI was 38 when we got referred & I was told it had to be under 30 before starting treatment. Our clinic put us on the waiting list & gave us a start date when my BMI was 32.

I followed weight watchers & exercised & when it came to starting our cycle beginning with 4 weeks on BCP I was only a couple of pounds off target. When it came to my scan to start injectibles 6 weeks later I had gained weight on the drugs and was 7lb over the limit. My clinic cancelled my cycle saying I shouldn't have been put forward & it was basically their error.

Not trying to scare you at all but clarify with your FS what they will/won't do when it comes to your BMI. I was crushed because my clinic moved the goal posts & didn't bother to do their job properly at the time. Hope your road is an easier one xx

sorry about the clinic hun, thanks for the info. i thought that would be the case

Im the opposite, I have a BMI of 17 :(
Its just as hard to put on weight for me.
I ended up going private although my FS has warned me that being underweight is worse than being overweight when TTC.
Seems like we cant win!

My pct has a cut-off of 35 but as long as I was on the list by then it was ok.

Regarding bmi, I could have all the tests but they wouldn't put me on the list until my bmi was under 30.
