Hey Fellow TTC'ers :)

Hope your all well.

Just wanted to find out other ladies experiences of coming off contraception to start TTC.

I've been on & off contraception since DD was born (Sep '10). I went back on Mircogynon but came off that after a few months and was put on Cilest but came of that because it was giving me terrible migraines so was then put on Cerazette about a year ago & half ago. Decided to try depo end of last year - had 2 shots of that but didnt get on with it so went back on Cerazette in March! Cor a lot of contraception ah!! So, i took 4 months worth of Cerazette but took my last pill June 27th after OH & I decided to start trying for bubba #2 :)

I've always had periods while on contraception. Sometimes there were a bit all over the place but while on depo/cerazette i had regular monthly cycles - around 30 days. So i was due a period 30th June which happened but since then i've had nothing. Was expecting next AF to be 30th July but that never came. I went through of stage of thinking "oh well i could be pregnant" and i think i've done about 10 tests in the last 3-4 weeks!! lol before finally thinking "Right stop being stupid, your not doing anymore tests". Im fairly relaxed with it all. Like, although we obviously want baby number 2 I dont mind if its this month of in 5 months. I'm just trying to go with it. Obviously if time went on and still nothing happened id start to get anxious but at the minute im OK to wait. Im not charting temps or using OPKS etc.

So yeah, last period was 30th June and not had once since. Im not pregnant as the 10 tests have told me im not lol. So its now day 49 since last pill and day 46 since last AF. We're still obviously DTD although i dont know if i am ovulating or "back to normal" and am just thinking if it happens it happens.

But i just wanted to know other people experiences with coming of concraception, AF returning. how long your cycles took to regulate and how quickly (or not so) you got your BFP?

Thanks in advance for all replies :)

Laura

Hi,

I was on cerazette for 12 months I took my last one on 10th June when we decided to try again(we tried for about 16mths I went on the pill to have a break from trying) Whilst on it I didn't have a proper AF just had frequent spotting to light flow along with the usual cramps etc. After stopping the pill i didn't have any withdrawal bleed and no AF in the 9 weeks it has been since stopping. I have had 2 instances once July and once last week of spotting but that's it.

So far not a great experience as until AF arrives I'm in limbo :-(

Sorry my experience can't be more positive but FX yours regulates soon and you get a BFP

I suspect my cycle is not yet regulated after going off the pill. Here's my reasoning:

I stopped taking the pill (Apri) on June 19th after having been on it for a couple of years (was on two different ones before that so about 7 years total). I was taking it continuously (ie skipping the placebos so I only had a period every 3 months- w/ Dr. advice). Before going on the pill my periods were always pretty regular, but of course now I don't really know what my cycle length is since it has been dictated by BC for so long. Honestly I am not even sure when (or if) I am ovulating now and I wonder if my body is still adjusting to being off of birth control.

Last month we didn't use an OPK or anything so we guessed when I would be ovulating and on day 28 I had cramps and spotting, then nothing for a day and then the night of day 30, I had REALLY bad cramps and a heavy period for two days then lighter cramps and flow for the next 2-3 days and it was done. We tried an OPK and it initially tested + on day 6, but I think that was a false positive (directions said it's fine to use first morning's urine, but I think that was the problem)- had a neg. result 4 hours later and it stayed negative until Day 11 (two positives that day), so per the instructions, I stopped testing at that point. Did have some EWCM around that time, so I figured I probably was ovulating. But now, (Day 26) I've had EWCM for a couple of days again (is that likely if I supposedly ovulated 2 wks ago!?) and I've had mild cramps and a backache for 2 days now, plus some spotting today. So I think my period is probably on the way, based on the symptoms.
BUT I am confused- the OPK's are supposed to be really accurate, but then why would I have EWCM (supposedly a sign of ovulation) again two weeks later!? So I am wondering if because I just went off the pill in June- maybe my cycles are not stabilized yet so that there was an LH surge (hence the positive OPK) but ovulation didn't actually occur until this week?

Hmm this is an interesting subject as i too came off contraceptive pills but mine was over a year ago and have never had a reliable AF date until my last cycle, it lasted 4 weeks 4 days and i had my dark opk 2 weeks 2 days after the bleeding started then had my AF exactly 2 weeks 2 days after the dark opk.

After coming of the pill my periods were all over the place my longest was 6 weeks once, but it was mostly just brown spotting and sludge with every AF (sorry TMI).

Ive heard it could take up to a year for cycles to go back to normal after coming off the pill, i don't want to put a downer on things but im starting to beleive this is the situation in my case

I'm in the same boat, sadly. Stopped taking bcp 3 months ago. Since then, only an early and really short AF just 3 weeks after stopping bcp. It's been 2 1/2 months now with no spotting and hardly any symptoms. Sometimes I think I notice cramps and such, but it might just be in my head.... Any advice would be wonderful!

Hi Frenchie, not really got any advice as I'm in the same position. Stopped BCP on 10th June, I haven't had any AF yet not even a withdrawal bleed. I did take a test 1week ago to make sure I hadn't got caught straight away but it was negative.

I keep thinking its on its way one day but then the next nothing arrives like you I'm thinking "Is it all in my head". I have started temping and checking CP to see if this tells me anything but nothing so far.

It is so frustrating!

My husband and I got married last November. In December I stopped taking the pill ( which I had been on for 10 years) as we wanted to start trying for a baby. We also put our house on the market in January.

We had lots of problems with our house purchase so it was a stressful time but still by the end of March I had not had a bleed (other than the normal one after my last pill) At the beginning of April I had a smear test and mentioned to the nurse about my lack of period. She said to give it another month then to make a doctors appointment. My smear test came back normal, and still no period in May so I went to the doctor. She said it was fairly unusual so sent me for a bloodtest and an ultrasound. Both the bloods and ultrasound indicated no problems so she said she would refer me to a gynaecologist.

I then eventually had a period (fairly short lasting 3 or so days) at the beginning of July. I had bought an ovulation test which I started using the week after I started bleeding. This told me that I 'ovulated' on day 11 which seemed fairly early so I was expecting an early second period but 6 weeks later still nothing and a negative pregnancy test I have my gynaecological appointment in a week but not sure whether I should wait to see if my body can do it naturally first!

I know I am putting too much pressure on myself which can't be helping but it is all I can think about! Has anyone else had a similar experience?
