AF-like pains at 16+5

This is my first pregnancy so I'm not really sure what to expect. I was prepared for mild cramping at this stage but this seems a bit extreme. It woke me up at around 5:15 this morning and has stopped and started throughout the day. At its worst, it's like the pain I experience on the first and third day of my period - the type that is so heavy it requires a change of tampon every 30-45 minutes due to leaking and a couple of ibuprofen to get me through it. It's also causing a bit of a sharp pain in my bum if I don't sit a certain way.

There's no blood or spotting. Is this normal? Should I go to A&E or wait it out?

Could be Round Ligament pains. I had some cramping around the same time and went to the ER cause they were bad enough for me to be worried. I did have a UTI which was making them worse but it sounds like RL to me. If you're really concerned go ahead and call your OB/midwife. You might have an UTI as well which can cause the pains to worsen for some reason.

I've also been having these pains, convinced they were AF coming. I made an appointment with my doctor and they told me it was down to round ligament pain which is quite common at these stages of pregnancy. I am 21 weeks and it's been quite intense so far, but just glad it was nothing serious. It is also my first pregnancy as well, so been questioning every single thing.
