great petition!

I disagree, and won't be signing. We don't do the same for murderers or anybody else who've comitted even worse crimes, and while I don't want to contribute to their lives at all, where would you draw the line? It won't get listened to, even if the whole country signed it x

Only if it's officially declared as a riot and not a violent disturbance. The MPs and PM etc have NOT used the word riot for this reason. It's actually the police budget the money comes from too

I disagree incase they have children. Yes they have commited a crime but their children played no part in it and they shouldn't suffer x

i think tbh anyone who commits a serious
crime should have their money taken away
what the hell do prisioners need benefits for ...

Not all of them will go to prison though  Some will be sent on community service or have tags etc x

i'm talking about jsa things like that
not child benefits, there's no reason to take
money away from their children just money
for personal use

But wouldn't JSA still go towards the child i.e food, bills etc. I know when I was on JSA it went towards the house CB and CTC were no where near enough to support us on their own iynwim? x

Surely if someone has any benefit taken off them that will affect their children - housing benefit pays nearly all of a lot of peoples rent

They don't get benefits while they're in prison anyway!

I think, instead of prison, they should help to fund the rebuilding and cleaning of what they were proven to be involved in, and they should help the builders physically in the building. They should also be made to apologise to each shop-keeper, each employee and each family they disturbed. Put their wrongs right, so to speak. The guys who injured or killed people should be in prison automatically.

ETA: Like, I mean, what people were found guilty of being involved in, the cost should be split between those charged & then they could have like, a payment plan so they'd be paying for most of their lives. It shows them the sheer consequence and humility of what they did, and the Government wouldn't be out of pocket since they'd be paid back.

Uggggh watching theresa may grrrrr.. shes still saying no to water cannons and baton rounds saying we dont need them!!!

Sometimes I wish we never had any benefit system because its abused soo badly, and we cannot take it away, the only way these "thugs" would learn what they have done comes at a price was if they where working/had jobs but of course none of these will and will just sit on benefits breeding the futures benefits rioters ahh..

disclaimer I have nothing agasint people getting tops ups on low incomes or the people who want to work but cannot or REALLY canot find jobs..

I signed the petition. If they want to have children they will have to do what everyone else does and go and work!!

not wanting to get into a debate here but in the year I was off work I looked and applied for jobs at every oppurtunity. Sometimes there was 300 people going for the same job. It really isn't that easy to get a job anymore x

yeah i am on income support at the moment, 50 pounds a week. I cant work because I have Lyla and I have no one to leave her with and no money for child care. I just have to wait until she is older I suppose. But in all honesty I dont want to live off of benefits for any longer than I have too! x
