1843: Jackie from Peckham, London emails: I've just read with disbelief the sentences of 10 weeks and 16 weeks, I don't understand why the sentences are so light. The damage caused to communities and businesses is going to take longer than 10 to 16 weeks to rectify! This sends out the wrong message completely!!

He's right, this is disgusting. Some people have lost their homes forever and these knobs get a few weeks and then get to go back home. Where is the bloody justice?!?!

10 weeks probably isnt even long enough for these people to learn there lessons! Who's to say they wont come out and go out and start doing the same thing?!

The prisons are too full

They've just released someone after 3 years from murdering a 2 year old little boy. Its disgusting.

everytime someone goes to prison it costs the taxpayer to keep them in there. i know that these people should be punished but there are limits to the amount of space in prison, and resources to keep them there. sad state of affairs

Yep, totally ruined his future for the sake of some stolen goods. I think a lot of people just got caught up in the excitement - they did it because they saw others doing it and in a moment of madness they thought they could get away with it too. Well more fool them, I hope they all end up getting the punishment they deserve.

So they probably wouldn't be afraid of what you're suggesting either?

i dont condone that, but it would work!!

Look at countries where punishment is served in that way and then say it will work. If it worked, no punishments would be given because no crime would be committed.

Not sure this is an important debate at the moment though.
