Am I entitled to help?

Not really sure if I should put this in the Health section.

I've been off work now for 6 weeks with a doc's cert, on full pay.


Tuesday I finally had my 1st consultant appointment. Consultant has said that I am unfit to drive until 7th July (unless circumstances change). Prob is I have to drive in order to get to work and my doc's cert ends 6th June :dohh:

So basically I can't get in to work. Consultant says stress has brought on my episodes and I am to reduce my stress, but work at the moment is the main cause of stress. I doubt work would be prepared to pay me just because I can't drive to get to the branch. Consultant says in fit to work as I'm not in a physically demanding job (not required to lift anything heavy etc).

I was considering quitting my job as I am being bullied at work and they are refusing to reduce my hours, another thing I wish to request due to my episodes. But I can't as my OH has just been laid off and I am bringing in the only salary! :cry:

Does anyone know if I would be entitled to claim anything as I am unable to drive to work in the meantime?

(DVLA advise that I am unfit to drive due to my episodes and must refrain from driving for 3 months, I must also have not suffered any other episodes during the 3 months).

Would we be entitled to any help if I left my job due to stress causing my episodes?
 
Best to speak to citizen's advice about what help you may be entitled to. It might be tricky if you give up your job. You will be expected to look for work if you are deamed fit; if you can get a sick note you'll get some sick pay.
Also speak to them about the bullying and stress at work, they'll give you advice where you stand legally.

While you are off sick you can claim employment and support allowance but only if your not getting paid from your work. sorry i cant help more

I've got another certificate from my doc, he's signed me off for another month but I'm not sure if i'll get paid so i'll have to call HR to check.

Hadn't heard of Employment & Support allowance, so i'll look into that!
