Hi Ladies
I know that I am entitled to claim SMP as I am being made redundant after my qualifying week, so basically this is my qualifying week and I leave next week. No one is disputing this and my company have kept me on so that I qualify which is really good of them. However we're at a loss is how best to pay SMP. I spoke to ACAS and they said my company can either pay me a lump sum of my SMP entitlement or pay via payroll. My problem is though is that I work for a very small firm, most of us are leaving and we have no HR and payroll is outsourced. If the company folds whilst I'm receiving SMP it will need to be paid by the government, but there won't be anyone left here to assist me changing it over! So basically I would prefer the lump sum so I know that I'll get my full entitlement, without the worry of the firm folding. Has anyone else got their pay as a lump sum?
