It's wierd but I have been pregnant twice since last sept. Last oct I got really sick with a chest infection, took pg safe antibiotics as I was ttc got my bfp whilst still taking antibiotics and lost that baby to mmc at 11.5(6wks). Again this feb got sick with chest, ear and throat infection again antibiotics and got my bfp at the end of that week again mmc at 10(6wks).
i'm wondering whether the antiobiotics which both dr's told me was safe could have caused a mc. Is it just coincidence I have lost both my babies when they started life with me on antibiotics.

Has anyone else been on antibiotics early inpregnancy and lost their babies?

I am also sick again feel tonsilitis or a throat infection coming on and since I have only been sick whilst pg in the last 6 months am wondering whether I could be pg again. I know your immunity is lowered while your pg, If I am sick I wont be touching antibiotics, although it's 'safe' to take certain antibiotics, if I am pg again I want to not have anything but pre natal vits getting to my 'baby'.

I would really like to know too actually i am on antibiotics now also for a urine infection which i also had before i got my bfp last time too..so im hoping im pg this time...i know two women who took antibiotics in early and late pg and still went on to have healthy babies so i dont think it has an effect but i'd like to know other women's experiences..i hope you get your bfp!! sending baby dust your way x

Sorry for your losses :hugs:

I've just finished a course if antibiotics due to a UTI and I requested a safe form due to TTC. It did take longer for them to work but it appears to have cleared up now.
I imagine that if they are prescribed to pregnant ladies, there's been enough research to back it up as safe. As horrible and hard as it sounds, there's not always an answer as to why we lose our little ones apart from it's a piece of cruel fate :hugs:

Massive :hugs: and I hope I haven't offended anyone :flower:

XxX

Hi ladies, sorry also for your losses. I think also that the fact you were taking antibotics coincidental. Most antibiotics are completely safe to be taken whilst pregnant, ttc and breastfeeding. I have taken them whilst pregnant on many occasions, particularlly for utis. Some kinds of infection can actually cause mcs (particularly utis) which is why you are tested at each appointment. Maybe if you are looking for a culprit you could blame the bacteria that caused your infections, wwhich in my opinion is more likely. Unfortunately not every pregnancy will have a good outcome and we have all experienced this. No-one can bring our babies back, I don't think that refusing treatment is going to prepare your body for a healthy pregnancy or to give your baby the best start. While your immune system is low it is particularly important to give it all the help you can.

Maybe you should have a chat with your doctor. X

was on antibiotics with my ds who is now 2.5, didn't know I was pregnant so no special treatment. On antobiotics with ziggy and lost that pregnancy. so my experience is 50/50.

Sorry can;t give any conclusive answer

I am so sorry for your losses. :hugs:
I just wanted to second what sthorp1179 said, as it was very close to what I was going to say as well.

when i miscarried in April when i went to the er they said i had a uti and i didnt have any symptoms! I am guessing it was from bding and maybe thats why i miscarried? anyway... how do i know if i have one now from all this bding??? You t hink i will be ok if i drink cranberry and water the next 2 weeks? I was FINE, test getting darker.. got super dark. Took penicillin on Sat , Sun test started getting lighter, miscarried by tues.

Juliana's mommy- I have suffered from cystitis since I had my ds annd was catheterised during labour. My consultant urologist told me the best thing to do after bd is to go pee afterwards to prevent bacteria travelling up the urethra.

This was my point exactly, you had a uti (which can be symptomless especially when you are peeing more frequently due to pregnancy anyway) and you didn't get antibiotics in time to prevent a mc (usually takes 3 days to start to work).

I was on stong Antibiotics for a bad chest infection and as I finished my 2nd course we conceived. I don't believe it had anything tod o with our MC, it is just one of those things I guess.

so what should i do when ttc? i will get up from now on but what if i conceive this month i am about to o if not already

Well I stopped taking them cause I was TTC and it was time to O but I got sicker. And TTC when your sick isn't a healthy start to begin wit, so I ended up taking them, then concieved. Maybe just drink plenty of water, cranberry juice or cranberry tablets. You can also buy those sachets for UTIs. The ones here in AUS are called Ural and you just mix it in a glass of water and it helps you pass the infection out. And yeah always wee after sex. I elevate for half an hr then go to the toilet otherwise I end up flushing the swimmers.

@julianasmommy - I always pee after sex just something I always do, keep trying with the cranberry juice and tell ur dr of your concerns next time u fall pg and maybe she can offer you something to help prevent the uti's or maybe have a chat to the dr before u fall, might give u peace of mind.

I know some antibiotics are safe during pregnancy but I'm talking about at the moment of implantation which is when I was taking mine. I know it's probably just a coincidence and i'm clutching at straws but it just seems both pregnancies started and ended the same way my babies didn't last more than a day or two off the antibiotics, which makes me think antibiotics around implantation isn't a good idea. I will be asking the fertility specialist and if this illness I have needs medical treatment then I will be asking my dr too. I know the infection could also be to blame and after my first mc I thought there is no way it could have been the antibiotics but after it happening the same way both times makes me wonder. Everything I have read has said certain antibiotics are safe during preganancy but maybe nothing has been researched into whether they are safe for conception as well. Makes me sick to think if I hadn't taken antibiotics (and 'suck it up' like oh told me to last night) I would have a beautiful baby in 4wks.
I don't blame myself as I couldn't have known but it consumes my thoughts that I could have caused this unknowingly

the health of the mother at time of conception is the key the antibiotics are a by the by I think. If you are taking AB's its cos you have an illnes or infection etc and that is what has the efect on a sticky baby etc etc. I had 3 courses of strong antibiotics when I was pregnant with my son. I had an infected labia, yes cross your legs it effin hurt. Looked like I had a willy, serious infection and oozing puss etc etc not nice at all so you can imagine the strength of those ab's and bubs is perfectly fine and healthy!

Hmm interesting!! I MC in September and I was on Antibotics for something?? This time I was on them again because I had two root canals. Makes me wonder?? Amoxicillian is suppose to be the safest during pregnancy or bf..

I was on something safe for pregnancy too both times. It's probably just a coincidence.
i think Amixcillan is safe but I'm not sure. I will be taking a more natural approach to illness from now on no more antibiotics unless i really need them. My oh always said if it lasts more than 7 days see a dr might take his philosphy. More natural can't hurt right!

It can take upto 3 days for antibiotics to kick in. And uti's can be a cause for miscarriage. Last year when I fell pregnant, that same month I had a bad chest infection where I was on antibiotic for over a month. I was on the pill, so I assumed it didn't hinder ovulation or implantation. But I stopped my medication mid course as I thought it would have affected my baby. Sadly I didn't get any better and I miscarried. My regret is stopping it. My advice is that if your doctor has prescribed it knowing you are pregnant then it is important to continue the treatment. I have antibiotics during this pregnancy and all is well
