Any Advice on Vitex?

I kept on it through my first trimester and started weaning at 12 weeks. It can cause a sharp drop in progesterone which can cause MC. I already know I'm progesterone deficient so I was more comfortable staying on it.

That makes perfect sense. I figure ill just give my body a little while longer although i have the utmost respect for vitex im just not sure about continuing at least not at the dose im currently at i feel like it'll do more harm than good.

Rockstar I have heard ladies using 2000mg without any problems, I think it's best that you try and wait it out for the next few weeks and see how you fair on it.
maybe then if you don't see a period then go get some answers from a doctor.

For me if I do fall pregnant then I wi probably continue to take vitex for the first trimester as you said kyla, fx I ovulate sometime soon...

HopefullyOpto you think i should continue to take it? I mean i kinda wanted to finish out the bottle being that i already bought it.

im hoping we both ovulate soon. You so you can get your BFP and me so i can finally see af lol.

I don't see the harm in continuing to take it for a little while longer to see if it changes things, what cd are you now on? And when was the last time you saw a doctor or gynae?

Today is cd76. I saw the gyn on the 23rd of march so about two weeks after I had missed the second period in a row.

For me the longest cycle I have had was 84 days and I know that some can even go longer, I would give vitex a little while longer, maybe a week or two and then badger your doctor because it's not right for them to leave you like that, makes me so angry that they don't seem to care sometimes (mine definately doesn't that's for sure)

Hey 1nceUponATime... My gyn told me to start taking bcp to regulate my period and im just wondering exactly how that works. I mean bcp's main job is to surpress ovulation so how would taking them reset my cycle plus how would all the extra hormones in the bcps help regulate mine. sorry just venting but i do think it would reset your period or at least cause a withdrawl or estrogen bleed and give you a fresh cycle to start from. I have been thinking about doing the same thing but i wanna first see if progesterene cream in combination with the vitex works plus i kind of wanna finish out the vitex since i already bought it. sorry im el cheapo sometimes. I am currently taking 2000mg a day and the only thing its done so far is give pms but no period. it has only been a week though so im thinking my impatience is getting the better of me. what cd are you up to now?

rockstar- Yeah it is to just basically to start from scratch. Most people use Provera to induce a period, but it has only worked once out of four times trying it for me. So rather than use Provera (10 days of it, plus up to 10 days waiting for AF) and possibly wasting my time, I just opted to use birth control pills, which I know cause a withdrawal bleed. So, in other words, you will be taking a break from TTC basically. You wont be able to try to get pregnant for that month if you take them, but when your 90 plus days like I was, it was worth it because I couldn't try to get pregnant anyhow ! You do need to try to have a little patience with vitex, because they likely aren't going to produce any results within a week anyhow, they need to build up in your system.

So im pretty sure AF came. I say pretty sure because it started in the wee hrs of the night during a bathroom visit but it was not pink discharge i usually see during spotting. Sorry tmi. It's now coming out brown or atleast it was the last time i checked which was a little while ago and my stomach had been cramping and sore boobs so yay cd1 again finally!!!!

Yay rockstar!! Here's to a news cycle and hopefully a successful one :)
Looks like vitex helped :)

I know but im starting to get worried that it's only spotting because it seems to be weening off and it hasnt even been 24hrs. i hope its not just spotting ill be so disappointed

Could be ovulation spotting? Have you been temping or using OPKs to track?

:sad2::sad2:](*,)](*,)](*,)](*,)](*,)Kyla: I did an opk on saturday and it came back negative. Plus the cramps are like right in the middle of my uterus and my boobs or sore.

Hope: the only other cm right before this was the milky stuff... i have no idea what is going on now i was so excited but now i just wanna scream my frustration starts again especially since the last time i went to the bathroom the blood had stopped completely:sad2::sad2::sad2:](*,)](*,)](*,)

Are you progesterone deficient? I am and I spot a cpl days before AF. Citex helps progesterone issues but it takes time to do that. Some cycles I don't spit and some I do. If I had a weak ovulation I will bc not much progesterone is produced. With a strong ovulation I wont spot.

Kyla not that i know of and it was weird it completely stopped then started back again for a few hrs and then when i woke up it was gone again. I'm almost ready to throw in the towel and just get back on bcp at least there isnt this confusion or frustration

Vitex isn't a quick fix. It can take three months for it to work. It works by correcting hormonal imbalances so that's why it takes so long to work because it fixes the issues.

I'm not sure if it's the vitex or my body trying to start itself over. Because i didn't actually take the vitex yesterday. I'm trying to decide whether or not i want to continue taking it so i haven't really been taking them consistently as i was the past few days. I was told that the vitex may actually screw my cycles up if they arent already. so i just decided maybe i'd let my body do its own thing and just check my temps to see if i actually ovulate at all. I'm so tempted to just get on the bcp for like a month and see if it helps.

Rockstar, I think you are going through a stage like I was recently. Constantly scared that something you take might make it worse and you would rather your body did it on its own.
I'm preservering with vitex currently as I know it can take time and because I'm not as lucky as some of the other woman where it worked straight away doesn't mean that it won't work eventually for me.
Spotting could be your body attempting to finish your cycle.

My personal opinion (and I reiterate "personal opinion") is to avoid BCP if you can, it's full of synthetic hormones and it can actually make cycles worse. Go back to your Dr if you are concerned and get it checked. Feel free to PM me if you want to chat, I can help by just allowing you to vent. I definately understand the frustrations with long long cycles. :(

I periodically do a month of birth control pills if I have gone too long without a period. Provera will only work if my periods a few days "late". It is not enough once it has been a couple or few months. That's just me though. I would talk to your doctor about it.
