I studied at college on a one year full time course. I've not heard of any training on the job places as its not like hairdressing where you could sweep up or wash hair etc. To go anywhere near a client you really need to be qualified. I would imagine there are plenty of evening or part time courses available out there. I've not worked as a therapist for about 12 years though as I left the industry so it may have all changed. Good luck
Hi staycutee, I am currently doing a NVQ2 in Beauty Therapy...Really there arent many if any salons that will do an apprenticeship type thing unless you have the level 2. Its best to go to college and do it. I study 2 and 1/2 days a week and I'm really hoping I finish before baby arrives! There are specialist colleges too that do fasttrak courses which are usually 5days a week for like 16weeks but they tend to be quite expensive. Google courses in your area. Once you've got your level 2 put your self out there and see if you can get more training with in a salon....Theres a lot to learn and alot to remember especially when it comes to health and safety with clients but its a great course and can open doors especially if you want to concentrate in one area. Hope you find what your looking for! Also when you get started remember to charge your friends and family a couple quid here and there for your treatments otherwise people will try and take advantage....which I have found with my hairdressing and now with beauty! xx
