What diet did you follow? What food restrictions?

Yep, there are plenty of us. To be honest I've been pretty bad with my diet but I try and stay within the guidelines of 60 carbs a meal but 30 for breakfast and snacks. My numbers have been fine but insulin dependancy increases as our pregnancies get further along so I imagine I'll have to start getting more strict with my choices.

Just found out today that I have it. I've had some weak moments, but all in all, I thought I was doing well diet wise. OH and I have been googling all day for snack and recipe ideas until I see the specialist. I'd be interested to see how other ladies are coping. Thanks for this thread.

You're welcome. I found out I was borderline on my test. SO I just told them I planned on following a gestational diabetes plan, rather than doing the 3 hour glucouse test. I NEVER drink soda, that drink was a killer for me.:D Hopefully we find out more!

Yip! Insulin dependant from 17wks, found out at 10. Come join us in 'Gestational Complications' thread, under 'GD Support'. You will learn loads there :) Good luck, it's very hard to deal with at the start but now it's 2nd nature to me. Prick 7 times a day and inject insulin 4 times, weird how quickly the fear disappears and get used to it! xx

Diet soda is ok it's the ones with sugar that will raise your levels. Juice is a huge no-no! Us GD gals drink a lot of water :)

I don't drink soda either, and I don't like to use artificial sweeteners. I'm a big water drinker anyway. I was drinking 8 oz of juice with breakfast, but I guess I won't anymore!

That sugary drink was disgusting. I had it twice as I did go through with the 3 hour test. No fun.

Whatever it takes to keep baby and me healthy though I can't imagine doing all those injections! And I'm not excited about all the finger pricking, but its nice to know I am not alone.

Kiwi, since you're borderline, will you still meet with a dietician and do the blood testing at home?

I am not sure yet, my actual appointment is Friday, they just called me at home today. I will join the GD boards just to get a feel for a better diet:) Thanks ladies! I drink water or lemon water exclusively anyway, aside from some milk on occasion.

I think the diet will be different for everyone. It's personalized...at least it was at the class I went to. There was 3 ladies in there including me and we all got different diets.
I'm allowed 30 carbs for breakfast, 15 for morning snack, 40 for lunch, 30 carbs for afternoon snack, 40 for dinner && 30 for nighttime snack.
I got put on meds today (even tho my numbers have been great) because I haven't gained any weight since being put on the diet (i started out underweight when I got pregnant) so they're concerned about my lack of gaining. But now i'll be able to eat more so hopefully start putting on weight again.
I check my blood when I wake up fasting && 2 hours after each meal (i dont check after snacks)
