Hi all
Not sure if I am worrying for nothing here but I had a gtt done in feb at the normal time that it is done (28 weeks??) due to my dad having type 2 diabeties.
I never heard anything from hospital an my midwife said that this means all was fine.
But !!!! I am massive (rude) people have actually stopped me in the street saying omg your bump is massive are you having twins when are you due that baby is going to be huge etc etc so I am having a major panic that I have infact got gd but it wasn't detected of something.
What do you think I should do ? Stop worrying !!
Thanks everyone

Your gtt should be redone later in pregnancy and you can request your gp or your midwife to do one. Some people are just big. I am huge. I was in the labor ward yesterday and woman smaller than me were giving birth. I am not overweight, and although I do have gd, baby is small not big. I just carry all put front.

Symptoms of gd are drowsiness after meals, nausia, increased thirst and urination.

Your mw should be monitoring your fh and if she is concerned she will repeat your gtt.

If you are really worried buy a blood testing machine and prick your finger 1 hr after a meal - or borrow your dad's. As a one off eat something really carby and sugary like a Chinese and test 1 hr after. If your sugars are over 7.8 you have gd. If they are near it, you might develop it later.

Thanks for your reply I will use dads machine tomorrow :-)
I have been to the consultant today and I am measuring 35 weeks and I am 32 weeks. She said she wasn't overly concerned because she could feel the baby and it felt "normal" and I do have a large overhang of skin due to me loosing 6 stone over the last few years so my fh isn't really that true.
I feel a little better after that visit with her :-)
Thanks again
Xx

They should really repeat it regardless as your test was so early. Gd can come at any time really due to increasing horemones. It is important it is picked up as baby can get very sick after birth if not.

I hope you are ok!

I tested negative for GD at 8 weeks, but positive at 28 weeks, so I also recommend a retest later in pregnancy!

The same. I was 7 or 8 weeks and okay. They retested me at 28 weeks and I had GD....

And I am not very big btw and I have GD. Most people think I look about 6 months and I am nearly 8 months. I think it depends on how you carry your weight in general and during the pregnancy as well. I am more round everywhere.
