Hey all!

I just felt this is the place to moan! I'm a history graduate (2008) and whilst I don't think having a degree makes you in any way a better person, I do feel like it's wasted at the moment! I currently work in subway, since the recession began it's the only work I can find. Anyway, in the last 12 months or so I've been trying to get on to a teacher training course for RE. I've had 3 interviews, and failed! Admittedly the first two I wasn't prepared enough for, and they asked some questions I didn't think of. Nevertheless, it's starting to get a little annoying!

I accept that teaching may not be for me, but rejection is still not pleasant.

Another career in which I would love to do is fundraising-for a charity (paid work). I just feel stuck in subway, it's like I'll never get out!

Anyway, sorry for blabbing, its been a looooong day!

My question is, how many of you feel you're in a boring/pointless job, you know what you'd like to do, but feel it's hard to get into?

Yeah, I feel the same...

My problem though is I never knew what I wanted to do so didn't do any courses (started college twice but dropped out twice.....(not the courses for me plus other reasons)).

But now I do know what I wanna do, don't have the qualifactions or funds to study so I'm trying desperately hard to get into it whatever way possible x

Yeah I feel the same. I am a Spanish graduate and also have a CELTA certificate, which is the Cambridge uni cert to teach English as a foreign language but I fell pregnant during the course, finished it though but came back home (from Spain) and now I'm pulling pints on minimum wage. There's nothing in my city for my qualifications, I regret leaving Spain so early.

I used to work in Subway also in Australia, just gotta love the smell that gets into EVERTHING!!!

Yup. I'm in my job purely to pay the bills until Theakston's old enough for me to do my psychology doctorate. It's so depressing!

Oh yes!

Drives me bananas, need to find something fulfilling for after my baby arrives, posted about it looking for ideas, its called "Ideas for work after baby arrives" a few threads above yours i think....

Good luck with it, hope we both find the inspiration and opportunities required!! =)

My manager is an absolute pr*ck! he told me I have '30 or something' hours accrued for holiday. I just found out I have 60+!!!!

What a f*cking liar.

can i ask why you are applying to teach re if you have a history degree? The reason i ask is im a teacher (history head of department) and would have thought you would find it really hard to get on a re course, have you thought about teaching history instead? If you want any advice about teaching interviews/applcations pls just pm me
