Hi ladies,

My baby has been in a transverse lie for most of this pregnancy. At 32 weeks she turned head down and even though she was still sideways at that point I wasn't worried at all as there was still plenty of time.
Yesterday I had a midwife appointment and was told the baby is now oblique so she's lying diagonally with her head down towards my left hip and bottom is on my right side.

I was told if my waters break or I have any bleeding I have to go to the hospital ASAP as there's a risk of cord prolapse which of course freaked me out a bit.:( When I asked if the baby is likely to correct her position on her own I was told it is possible but not very convincingly.

I'm booked for a scan on Tuesday when I'm 36+6 to confirm baby's size and position and then I have a consultant appointment a week later.

Anyone else have a baby in transverse/oblique lie at this stage or been in a similar situation? What was the outcome or what have you been told? I'm not quite sure what this means in terms of giving birth so just wondering what others have been told/experienced. I guess I'll find out for sure sometime after my scan.

I'll be trying some techniques from spinning babies website, not sure there's much else I can do.:(

Hey huni I am not far gone as you yet, I'm 30 weeks but this baby is transverse and has been through the whole pregnancy. I know every hospital is different but I see my consultant at 34 weeks, if baby hasn't changed position then he wants to book me for a c section (I think that's cause my first was a Csection after failed induction and pre eclampsia). From what I have read it is difficult for a transverse baby to turn after 32-34 weeks cause they don't have much space and they tend to be comfortable in what position they are in at 36 weeks and over. You can't birth a transverse naturally obviously. You would have to have a Csection. There is still a little time for you though. I'm worrying at only 30 weeks so I can't imagine how it is for you. I keep meaning to look at spinning babies but forget oooops! I should do though as I really want the chance of a natural birth this time. I have everything crossed that you can get baby to move before your next scan. Xx

It's not exactly the same position, but there are a few of us around 35 weeks commiserating about our poorly positioned babies on my Breech at 34+ Weeks... thread. Feel free to come join us! We're all the in the same boat where there's theoretically still time for them to move, but every day they don't reduces the odds.

I have gotten the same advice as you about impending labor signs since I will need to deliver by C section if baby stays breech. I do have a plan in place for the doctor to attempt an external maneuver to flip baby head down at 37 weeks, but this only has a 50-60% likelihood of working. It might be worth asking about for you - External Cephalic Version.

My ds2 was transverse, the hospital policy was to admit me at 37 weeks incase I went into labour and delivered the cord and do a c section at 39 weeks. He turned head down at 36+6 overnight and was born naturally at 41 weeks!

Thank you all for your responses, I appreciate them.

Vickylou- my baby was also transverse for the best part of this pregnancy. She was transverse in my 20 week scan and again at the 28 week check-up. I was so relieved when she had turned head down at 32 weeks, so I'm gutted now that she's shifted again. I really hope yours will turn on time, definitely get on a birthing ball even though you still have plenty of time. Good luck! xx

Rhiannon - thanks for the tip, I'll check the other thread. I'm really quite worried now, until now my priority has been avoiding CS and to be able to deliver naturally again, but now I just want the baby here safely whatever it takes. Not too keen on the ECV as the success rate isn't that great, not sure if they even do those for oblique babies. But hopefully I will know a bit more after my scan on Tuesday. xx

Sealion - thanks for that, that's exactly the outcome I want as well!!xx
