Anyone getting induced around 38weeks?

I'm being induced at 37 weeks. I was going to ask for that if the MFM hadn't mentioned it around 12 weeks. I know far too many people that had stillborns between 37 and 40 weeks and won't take the risk once they are ready to come out.

im sorry but unless you have a medical reason there is no reason to be induced because your scared..I know plenty of babies because mine are premies who where in the nicu born 36 -38 week who lungs and other stuff where not fully developed...

there is a reason these babies need to stay in more toward 40 if possible.....its safer and less chance of a still birth and other problems....

I can see if there is a medical reason but other then that....why put your baby at risk for having medical problems or even being still born because for this baby it was just to early??

many a mother in nicu who wished they just went to 39 weeks and did not press for an induction.

this is seen with my own eyes because i was in the nicu because my own premies..

i dont know about Ivf but I would push to go a bit further if able too and medically able too....
that sounds weird...:/
I think having had one baby die late in pregnancy is reason enough beyond other risk factors! At 37 weeks the babies are mature enough to rarely have issues. If you've had a stillborn you would absolutely understand wanting to get them out when they are considered "full term".

I'm sorry but in the case of someone who has had a stillborn then I have to completely agree with early induction. My OB would also induce as soon as baby is term for those who have unfortunately lost a baby, I agree with amjon

37 weeks is full term for twins anyways and is an awesome gestational age to get to with a pregnancy with multiples!

The chances of any serious complications happening at 37 weeks with twins is small. So, i agree with amjon and her specialists.

i have had TWO stillborns, so I know!
I have two premies and one micro premie!
I have one made it to full term with alot of medical intervention and i will still opt for making it the longest I could to make sure the baby has the most viability and less health risks...
not all babies are ready at 37 weeks some are not even breathing on there own yet....some heart whole still need to close that extra bit and loads of other reasons to keep cooking..
having had all this I still opt to keep them cooking as long as possible for the best outcome possible for my baby.....

telling someone hey if you had stillborns, I HAVE SO THANKS FOR ASKING AND PRESUMING :(

I just think after all i seen and been through the healthiest place for a baby is in mom as long as possible.....again being scared is no reason to induce that in itself can be not healthy or a death sentance for a baby...yes even 37 weeks

but medically nessary is a whole other thing......

....like i said, being in the nicu there where moms in there who induced for no medical reasons. The ones in there felt horrible for making that descion as it landed there babies in the nicu with problems they would not have had if let cook a bit longer...
*it doesnt happen to everyone but the chance is there*

this isnt a contest, this is people sharing what they know for the person to make an informative descion about her baby....
im not telling her not to do it, i can only tell her what i been through and seen and I done just that.....all i can do is wish her the best of luck whatever descion she does come to with her doctor....and that is all we can all do really

<3

I am a mom of premies and stillborn angels and I would still opt to keep baking as long as medically allowed....as long as my uterus is healthy to carry my baby and its healthy to stay in, its the healthiest place for it....as long as everything is healthy your baby has the best chance in, no matter what is around to simulate you...there is nothing healthier then in you as long as you and the baby are well enough for it...

that is me though.......everyone has a right to there own descions..

Thank you for all your in put - yes I am just looking for advice and other reason why people my be getting induced! I am completely clueless at this like this and I do have all my questions to hand for my midwife at my next appt in a couple of weeks. It wast until we left the room
Got back in car and questioned it our self! Am not saying I have agreed fully that this is the path we will take I am simply gathering some information as to why others get induced I have one friend on here I seem get indiced at 39 weeks with her ivf baby and she is now 41w3d still no baby so I see being induced can't always happen right away

I'm pregnant with an IVF baby and in Scotland like you (mine was at the GCRM). I'm being induced at around 38w but due to diabetes (not GD). Never heard of being induced due to IVF but when I said to someone that I'd be induced they said "oh, yeah, because its an IVF baby". I thought she'd just got it wrong but if you've been advised differently maybe I've got it wrong

Aww congrats :) there's a section on the notes that they tick if it's a ivf/icsi pregancy - as much as I have read so far they dont like to have us go over due again I think a lot of hospitals are diff , girl I know Is pregnant with ivf twins and she isn't getting induced. I will find out more at my 16 week appt :)

xo

Thank you Hun - I guess we will know so much more at my 30 week appt as anything can change in this roller coaster :)

You said your midwife said this?? Seems odd, get a second opinion.

Yes midwife said at my 13 week scan appt it's a possibility she said as they don't tend to let u go over due I will no more when I met with my consultant .

I have already explained in most of the posts that after we left the appt we questioned it so yes we r getting another opinion with my own midwife at my 16 week appt - and find out a little bit more

Just because you started going to see someone doesn't mean you can't seek out a different care provider. Most doctors and hospitals wouldn't let me have a vaginal birth I was lucky to find one that would let me try. I'm working with a birth center with CNM's inside a large woman's hospital. Always be your own advocate, ask more questions and seek out second or third opinions. In fact go to the IVF boards here and ask this question.

It's not like that where I am my care will be at my local hospital! I have been on the ivf board on ff and seen a few ladies have this at around 39 1/2 weeks

I set this thread to find out other reason why people may be getting induced or if anyone was in same situation as my self. I would have happily asked more question at the time if I had more knowledge , but after doing my own research and reading a few others input on this thread and then thinking with my oh why? Why do they class a ivf pregancy high risk?

There is no partially question... I was just looking for advice and other reason why people may be induced. Not really a question I feel I should have posted into another board! But thanks for your input!!

Hi i am 31 weeks pregnant and my on has also told me its best to induce at 38 weeks as with ivf there is more chance of stillborn. I was wondering if you went ahead at 38 weeks and whether you were happy you did. Thanks :)

Been induced with both my pregnancies. Both were fine. I'll be being induced this pregnancy too at 37weeks. They give me steroids for baby's lungs. Labour's were fine also. First was 12hrs & second was 1hr & 36mins. Both babies fab birth weights at 37weeks My youngest dd was 6lb 15oz & my eldest was at 38weeks weighing 7lb 14oz. I think the consultant who is medically trained wouldn't knowingly put your baby in any danger. So maybe best to go with the professionals I would. Both my pregnancies are very high risk with pre-eclampsia, eclampsia | hellp. They saved my life. GL hun xx

I also will be induced, we are planning for it at 39 weeks.

I too lost my son at 32 weeks and after that we are not willing to allow to go over due.

I totally think it is a personal decision only you can make with your doctor.

I would speak to your doctor and ask why they feel so strongly to induce. I think that after full term, 37 weeks you should be fine. The closer to 40, however, you will mostly likely be more receptive to the induction and taking less risk of a C section.

This is a really interesting thread.

Policy on induction varies significantly... my sister lives in Australia and when she had her children (4 years ago) they would automatically induce at 40 weeks (unless the mother chose otherwise) on the basis that medical advice there indicated that the quality of the placenta declines after 40 weeks.

Here in the UK policy tends to be to induce at 42 weeks...

I will be offered an induction at 40 weeks because my local NHS advises that older Mums (ie 40+) don't go over 40 weeks. Again this can only be done with Mum's consent and I am not sure that this is consistently applied in the UK....??

I was induced at 39 weeks with my first because of lack of movement during the last two weeks... and this was absolutely the right decision for me and the little one.

I take the view that if there is a sound medical reason for induction, you should consider it, but at the end of the day, the decision will always be yours.

I will do whatever is best for this baby and if that means induction at 40 weeks, fine.. (and my first induction was fine!)

I am sure you will make the right decision once you have all of the facts... good luck, this thread has given you lots to think about!!

I was induced at 37weeks exactly with my first because of high blood pressure and the start of pre-eclampsia - absolutely the right thing to do for me and my baby.

Fully expect to have this baby evicted somewhere around 37-38 weeks too as chances are it'll be best for both of us but will know more after Doppler ultrasound scan and other tests.
