Had midwife today. There was glucose in my urine sample. She said they dont do anything unless you have it twice? She asked me if id eaten a lot of sugar, and I have had more than normal as had a bad cough and cold and been on the halls soothers and honey in hot water but wouldn't say ive had a huge amount. My next midwife appointment is my 34 weeks but its a week late because midwife is on hol and ill actually be 35+6 so pretty much 36 weeks. This seems like a long time to wait to see if I need a test for gestational diabetes? Anyone else have glucose in their urine? Does this sound right?

I've had it all the way through they wanted to test me for GD at 16weeks because of continuous glucose in my urine despite eating/drinking next to nothing due to hg but couldn't have the actual test as they didnt think I'd tolerate the drink due to the sickness. I had random blood sugar levels done and monitoring and all was ok with that, passed GD test at 28weeks too but still had +++ of glucose in my urine this week at my appt. midwife and dr aren't concerned though! Hope your ok and turns out to be a one off x

I had it early on but not since. The only explanation my mw had was that I was pretty much living in fruit at the time and had eaten a nectarine and pineapple an hour before my appointment. Hope it is nothing to worry about :)

Yep I had it today (28 weeks), midwife wasn't concerned at all. However I said it had worried me as OH is type 1 diabetic and I know he would worry about it so she has sent my bloods to be tested for glucose...however she did say it was probably just a blip and not to worry.

I have GD and every other time I go to my OB, twice a week, I test positive to glucose in my urine. Dr is not concerned but did mention it to me so I was aware.

Thanks for replies. Put my mind at rest a little. Hopfully just a one off. :-)

I've had it every appointment since about 16 weeks and have had for all 4 pregnancies. I had the glucose test at 28 weeks but all was fine, it was still there though last week at my 36 week appointment.
Last pregnancy my midwife calls aid it was apparently classed as a leaking kidney? :)

Ive had it at each visit and I passed the 3 hour glucose screen. She just told me that some women have it in their urine even if they don't have gd, bc of the increased blood volume. She said with the extra blood some people's kidneys can't clear the sugar fast enough but it's not a concern unless it continues after pregnancy.

i had sugar in my urine at my visit last week. my Dr. asked what i had for breakfast. i told her i had pancakes with syrup. she said, "well, that'll do it!" my GD test was normal a few weeks before that so she wasn't worried at all.

I haven't before but I did have this week (28 weeks) and my midwife is doing the same, although I hadn't eaten ALOT of sugar the day before I had eaten chocolate in the evening. My next appointment wouldn't have been until 34 weeks but I've got one at 31 weeks to check it again. Even I thought it's quite late to control it with only 8 weeks left but it can make a difference and leaves time for growth scans and consultations if needed. I've been told to be careful what I eat until I get checked again. I imagine they'll arrange the GTT and get the results back fairly quickly if glucose is found in your next urine sample.

Have had it with all 3.....I think its just my body. Luckily have always tested negative for GD.

I have high amounts of it in my urine because of having diabetes that was left untreated for 6 months after I had my son because my doctors gave me the impression that GD goes away on it's own and didn't give me the standard GTT 6 - 8 weeks after having my son.. :growlmad: but that's another story. Anyway, I had a really high BGL of 540 (which for those of you on the other scale, anything more then 500 can potentially lead to coma or death if left untreated) was extremely sick and it cause kidney damage. This happening to me caused me to do a lot of research on the subject so I'll pass on what I know.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you have kidney damage in any way shape or form; but it's likely only a small amount of sugar in your urine and it's probably because your kidneys are overworked during pregnancy. It's worse if you have recently had the cold/flu, had any of the vaccines or something that triggers your immune system as it makes your whole body work that much harder. Your kidneys are responsible for cleaning out both sugar and protein which is why during pregnancy both of these substances can be present in your urine without it necessarily meaning that you have GD, but it can be an indicator. Look up the symptoms of GD because if it's an indicator for you, you will likely have other symptoms to go along with it.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, especially if they aren't too worried about it. The GTT would really only be given just to make sure and mostly to cover their own butts so something like what happened to me doesn't happen to you and it gets missed.
