If so, did it get better/worse/stay the same over time. Any problems?

Bump...anyone?? (Not the same as lazy eye-ptosis is when one eye lid is slightly more 'down' than the other)

My daughter has a ptosis.
She's 14 months now and it's still there. The specialist said its unlikely to get better without an op which they plan to do at about 3-4.
If you want to pm me feel free xx

My son now 12 had congenital ptosis in both eyes. It is quite bad, one hospital said he had no muscle tone at all and the only way to correct it was with a brow suspension, neither of us felt comfortable with this and decided to leave it for a for years so DS could make an informed decision himself.
In 2010 he decided he wanted something doing, we saw another surgeon who agreed to operate and tighten his existing muscle, she did warn us that there was a 50/50 chance of it working as his muscle tone was so poor. He was operated on in Nov 2010. We have had someone problems as an eyelash had worked its was into the incision site causing swelling and inflammation, he had to have another op on one eye in Jan 2012 and all is now well!
If anyone wants to ask questions please feel free to message me x

We were just at the specialist Friday for this. Since my DD is so young, the doctor couldn't say one way or the other. We go back again in 3 months. DD's left eye looks partially closed and her eye looks inward. DH's aunt has a lazy eye which is quite bad, so of course we were worried about our DD. :hugs:

My dh has it slightly on his right eyelid and my lo has it slightly on her left... Lo's Dr didn't seem too concerned tbh so I might just leave it...

It can be purely a cosmetic problem but depending on how low the eyelid is it can affect their vision so I would suggest seeing a specialist.
My lo has vision tests every 6 months and they are just keeping an eye (no pun intended) on her to make sure she has no sight problems until they decide if/when to operate.
I, personally feel that my lo's is slightly better than it was at birth but its still noticeable. She has a 3mm difference in her left eyelid.

Thank you for your replies Ladies-appreciate it :)

I think the droop on my sons eye is about 3mm too so likely to be more of a cosmetic issue but im just not-our pediatrician hasnt suggested seeing a specialist here but i think ill be seeking a second opinion. Do we need an opthalmologist or would another pediatrician be able to advise?
What age to babies usually get their eyes tested? Im in east africa so i have to be more proactive than if i was at home in UK.

I actually just noticed this with my son.. it looks like he might have it. I never saw it before and don't really see it when looking at him, but I took some pictures of him the other day and noticed it right away. I plan to mention it at his next checkup to see what the doctor thinks.

I think we see an optometrist (not sure if that's right but they specialise in childrens eyes).
My lo had her first sight testat 6 months. They put drops in and looked in and could somehow tell how she could see.
At a year she had another but they showed her cards and looked how she focused etc.
If you don't have problems I don't think you would have a sight test til school but I may be wrong there.
If I were you I would ask to see an eye dr just for peace of mind as IF vision is affected it's important to correct it ASAP x

Hi,
My 6 month old daughter has this. Her HV referred us to the opthalmologist. On her first appt at 3 months old, she had drops put in, that keep her pupils dilated. On her second appt, he referred us to a pediatrician, to check her skull.
Her ped appt was 3 weeks ago, and she thinks one of her sutures has fused early, also known as craniositism(sp?). My DD had xrays 2 weeks ago and has a follow up appt next week for us to find out if thats the cause of it.
xxx
