I've just handed in my notice as i've decided i couldnt leave my daughter to go back to work, she's almost 6 months.I'm also a single mum and starting to feel a bit guilty that i'm going to have to claim benefits.I have worked full time since i was 16, im now 24 so i've never been on benefits before, i just knew i'd make myself ill worrying if my lo was ok while i wasnt there.Has anyone else decided not to go back to work? And if so how will you cope with less money?Just looking for some reassurance really!!x x

I'm contemplating it. Ideally I hope to find a night job at the airport or Tesco stacking shelves or whatever but with childcare costs it's simply not worth going back to my job. Good luck!

Not pregnant yet, but I plan to take my six months maternity full pay, then three months at half pay, and if we can cope on half pay, I will stop work. I don't plan to stay in my current job, if we were very desperate for money and OH couldn't get enough overtime I would become a childminder.

I have decided not to go back to my job after my maternity leave ends, due to becoming a full time mum and due to my deafness, I feel that I need to stay at home with the baby and building up the communicating and bonding with the baby. xx

If I could afford to not go back then I wouldn't but with a mortgage and a house to keep, I need to. I think claiming whilst your LO is young is nothing to feel guilty about. Only thing that bothers me is when mothers use the kids as an excuse not to work and claim when they're in school fulltime... whats that all about?

OH is looking for a job cos he's out of work whereas I've got one so i'm going back but only until he finds a job and then I will quit and he will work x

same as me, with fuel and childcare il be working for £30 per week :dohh: so i dont plan on coming back to work. i have to for one month then im leaving.im planning on getting a part time evening job or weekend job tho where the MIL and FIL will have Baby for us.:flower:

Just see it as getting back some of the tax that you have paid!

I am currently looking in to whether I will be going back to work or not. I dont have anyone to help look after Olivia and we haved worked out that nursery fees will be around £400 per month (depending on what hours work will let me have). After my travel expenses it wont leave much!! And because of o/h's wage we cant claim working tax credit! I know that if I dont return to work straight away I will go back into work eventuallyxx
