I just found out that I have a bicornuate uterus (heart shaped uterus). My doctor said it's going to be very challenging to conceive and when I do it will be high risk and will have to be a c-section. Definitely different than my natural home birth plan.

I have my fertility specialist appointment where he will book a hysteroscopy to see how severe it is. Then it will be day surgery or major surgery, depending on the severity, to try correct it.

I'm hoping someone here is able to share their story, I heard it's pretty rare so I'm not able to find many first hand accounts.

Hey there,

Just wanted to say sorry that you're going through this. I have heard of the condition, but don't know anyone with it, I'm afraid.

I have immune problems and a clotting disorder and have been TTC for 2 years + too...

They can do so much these days...fingers crossed they will be able to correct it for you and you will have a H & H pregnancy.

Good luck...

Rach x

Yeah, I heard only 0.1% of women have the severe case of this uterine abnormality. I was hoping to find at least one woman on here with the same condition but it seems I'm out of luck.

I don't know much about immune disorders, but I hope you finally get your BFP soon <3 <3

I have! But the reason for my infertility is pcos and endo. If I had have conceived through my treatments (3 fresh IVF cycles) I was told I would have needed a section. I was also told by one doctor my risk of a miscarriage was slightly higher, but others disputed that so I'm not sure about that comment. I don't know if implantation failure was anything to do with the shape of my womb, an underlying issue or just one of those things. So I'm afraid no advice but you're not on your own xxx

I have a bicornuote uterus. It isnt completely in two but heart shaped at the top, I've heard that some people can almost have two separate uterus.
The lead consultant at my hospital said it shouldn't cause a problem in getting preg but can make it harder to stay preg. We've been trying over two years and currently waiting for hysteroscopy and laparoscopy.
Good luck x

Same as with Mexx, I have a bicornuate uterus but was told this should not cause an issue in conceiving (although we're classed as unexplained so who knows).

The only difference for me is that my uterus is only slightly dipped so not even quite heart shaped. We're due to start IUI in the next month so I'm hoping it doesn't have any negative effects.

Good luck with your tests x

Hey everyone! You're all definitely right.

I finally got in to see the specialist (after waiting 6 months) and he said that my family doctor was wrong. No surgery is necessary, and it's not the reason I've been having trouble TTC, my PCOS is.

I did hear though, like some of you laides, that it's a c-section once you conceive. It's due to the fact that because there is less space, the baby isn't able to turn and it would be breech if it was a vaginal birth. The only way you can avoid a c-section is if your baby does manage to turn around, which would depend on the severity of your uterus.

I'll be started Clomid in the New Year and he said if it works, I should have my BFP by Mothers Day.

Keep updating everyone. It's a rare condition (I read only 0.6% of women have this abnormality) and we're in it together <3

Good luck with the clomid. And be prepared for headaches from Hell!!
Unfortunately it didn't work for me but I've plenty of friends who conceived in this way.

Hope it goes well xx

I'm trying the clomid from jan too. So right here with you. Scared off getting bad headaches as was hospitalised once with head ache so bad my doctor thought I was having a stroke! I couldn't move my head, it turned out to be a virus. Hoping the headaches pass us by and we are symptom free! :-) x

I can join you guys with the heart shaped uterus. I have felt with PSOS most of my life and nobody pointed this out in ultrasounds. I found out when I started at the fertility clinic. I read about it online and got so worried, but the doctors said it should be fine.

Now I'm worried about the c section you guys mentioned, I really don't want one. I am also on Gonal F so multiples is a welcomed possibility. Maybe I need to look into how that one plays out.

A c-section is if the baby isn't able to turn before labour. Depending on how severe your heart shape is, it may not have the space to turn and would end up breech if they don't do a c-section.

I really didn't want a c-section either.. I wanted a natural home birth lol. My man has helped me think positively about it all.. Because mine will be schedules ahead of time, I'd get to pick the babies birthday! I also won't have to go through the pain of labour or get a episiotomy ;)

When you think of it that way, it doesn't seem all too bad :)

Thats good news. I really don't think mine is all that sever from what they are telling me.

I agree with your thoughts on c section (as much as neither of us want one). Who wants to be in labor for hours and hours at a time and in so much pain? I would also like to pick not only the date but a convenient time for the delivery. No waking up at 2am and trying to get to the hospital. There are so many benefits to a c section.

Exactly! Although I have to say I'm going to be so restless when the scheduled day starts approaching. I don't think I'll be able to sleep the night before, knowing exactly what time the next day I'll be holding my baby lol

hey :) I have a heart shaped womb :) it took us 4 weeks to conveive our first which we lost then 6 weeks after that we got our bfp who is now 19 months :) I also had a natural birth although I was induced as she wasnt budging lol dont give up hope when you do get pregnant stay active as this helps baby move about alot gd luck xx

I found out mine was from hysterscopy, before that in all ultrasounds they never noticed it. Mine is just a partial, she told me it means in those last few weeks I will most likely go into labor early. I was already planning on a c-section due other health issues, so that didn't change much. I'm worried about the 2nd tri abortion risk, but if they keep an eye on us weekly then they sew our cervix shut to prevent that from occuring! And we should expect bed rest! I just found this all out on DEC 6th

hi I have a heart shaped uterus. I have just recently given birth at 32 weeks due to iugr and pre eclampsia. I had to have an emergency section, baby was breech but the section was mainly due to iugr and preeclampsia. my doctor has told me that it can make getting pregnant more difficult (took us 9 months of trying) and also higher chance of miscarriage (which we didn't experience thankfully) but I have no idea how severe mine is. the reason is because of the dip at the top, can make implanting difficult, and also it could implant in not a good place, which would cause the miscarriage. despite all this, we have been really lucky to have got a baby and she is ok, however im not so sure how a second pregnancy would go, if we even got pregnant. will cross that bridge when we get to it.

I figured I'd update my other heart shaped ladies on what my OBGYN said.

I start my first round of Clomid this cycle because of my PCOS, I'm on CD 2 and I start it CD 5. He warned me about the risk of multiples, saying that the chance of twins goes up to 1 in 10 with Clomid. He also warned me because of the heart shaped uterus that if I have twins, it will be an extremely monitored and high risk pregnancy since there is barely enough room in there for 1, let alone 2 if they both implant in the same horn. He told me that with twins there would be a 60% chance that one or both may not survive.

I figured I would share this information for those of you who are TTC and might be starting treatment soon.

That's good to know Dottiee. I'm doing IUI at the moment with an increased risk of multiples.

You should definitely discuss the risks and the game plan if you conceive twins. Some women's BU isn't severe enough to make a difference, so it really just depends on your situation.

Fingers are crossed for you

That's been a fear of mine keeping me from taking clomid, because I'm already high risk from the moment I started trying, then finding out I have a partial add to it, twin's would be SO risky for my condition/situation..

but I trust in GOD he will never give us more than we can handle!!
