It is a great sign that your little girl is responding to sounds and startles.
Both our boys wear hearing aids, but the youngest was fitted when he was a baby. He failed the newborn screening. He also cooed and laughed, and behaved normally. I thought he was responding to sounds, but looking back, I think it was me being a little in denial, and seeing something
that wasn't there. (We've NEVER seen him wake up when startling to loud noises.) He has severe hearing loss in both ears. Since he was fitted with hearing aids at 5 months, he is on track with speech, and is doing great.
So, the great news is that it sounds like if your daughter has a hearing loss, it is very mild. And more good news is that if she does have hearing loss, it will be identified really early.
I know how nerve-wracking it can be to wait on those results. I hope and pray you get very good news very soon. : )
