gertrude. I've had a rough day as well and just wanted to let you know you're not alone honey. These first weeks/months are sure going to be a struggle aren't they. I don't usually get to eat until well after 1pm when DH isn't home and I was starving and cranky today and called little one some not so choice words which I deeply regret. I feel like such a terrible mother when I loose my patience. One minute she's a precious angel with little puckered lips and the next she's screaming inconsolably and I have no idea what to do to calm her down (fresh diaper, full belly, burped, comfortable position). I'm thinking of picking up some gripe water to see if it will help with her fussiness. Many Mom's I know have used it with great success and it's actually used quite a bit in DH's culture (middle eastern). Anyone else use/hear of it?
I have found a saving grace today in my Moby Wrap carrier. Pulled it out for the first time, watched a you tube video and well she's in there. Not exactly the most perfect wrap job but for our first time I'm pleased. She fell asleep right away and I was able to do a load of wash, the dishes, and am sitting now and she's still comfy in there. Once I figure out how to breastfeed in it I may never take it off! DH is excited to try out his carrier as well (it's more of a backpack type that you wear on the front, no wrapping required).
For the red bum, our nurse recommended using maylox or another antacid to help neutralize the acid of her poos. Apparently since I have so much milk it makes her stools really loose and they tend to burn her more. She doesn't have a rash yet but I want to start as a preventative measure. Might also start putting some butt paste on at every dipe change.
No nursing in public for me yet, I have nursed in the exam room at the pediatrician when they were running late, in the backseat of the car to top her off before lunch out, and also in the Mommy room at babies r us, but have been too chicken to do it in a real public place. I'll be the Mom running to the restroom to breastfeed her baby even though that's kind of icky.
Gertrude, I know what you mean about heating up food when holding LO but I've done it before and just turned the side of my body I was holding her on well away from the stove and made sure to keep my distance. I also wasn't cooking anything that could splatter as that would be too dangerous. Mostly I just heat up leftovers in the microwave or put frozen things in the oven which I can usually manage to set her down for a minute to pull the hot food out. Having to get real creative that's for sure!
Whoever was asking, yes I totally have a fear of dropping baby. For me it's when I'm going up and down the stairs, I always try to hold the rail but sometimes both hands are full or the way I'm holding her I can't really do it.
Gem, sorry to hear they're moving Ollie, hope you're able to get some answers. You are really strong for dealing with all of this honey. Wish I could offer more than that but you really are doing amazing for everything that's been thrown at you.
