baby has a sore red bum, has been on my boob all evening again with added shouting, she's pooing loads, I'm tired, she still isn't feeding from me well, she's so hungry tonight but I can't satisfy her, I've no idea what I'm doing and I'm home alone again tonight :(

she's been in mt arms for 6hours so far which is lovely cos she's gorgeous but I've had no tea again :(

Gertrude - Get some sudocrem on that bum!
And make sure to eat still... you NEED to make time for that no matter what.
Big hugs for you. x

Fucking hospitals (excuse the language) are pissing me off now. I WANT ANSWERS.
Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Gotta be up there tomorrow for like 10am if I want to go with Ollie to the other hospital or I cant go!

Gertrude - First of all Hugs sent your way - Life as a Mummy sure isn't easy especially in the early days, there are downright crappy days yet these memories will soon be replaced by good ones of your LO growing up and reaching milestones!

Agree get some Sudocrem on that little bum, or even some air time for 5 minutes.

Have you got a pump to express some milk, just to give your boobs a break and see if she is getting enough? Is topping up with formula an option?

Sounds like she is having a real fussy night. I am so sorry I cant suggest much - I remember those nights very clearly and would be in tears from exhaustion..but you know what? That time flew by so fast I don't even remember the newborn days with Jake.
Enjoy those extra long cuddles, but try and put her down so you can at least get some toast and tea - anything to keep you going. Yes, she will probably freak out and cry, but she'll soon forget once it's all over!

My LO is currently lying on her belly on my sofa right next to me, and she is more content like that than on her back....just like her brother and many babies in here by the looks of things! I am going to bed soon but dread it as I know full well as soon as her head touches that Moses Basket mattress, she will fuss..ugh. I woke up this morning with a boob hanging out, and Amelia next to me in bed, feeding from it!?! I must've brought her into my bed, fed her then fallen asleep. Awful considering I don;t remember doing so!!

Gertude - Do you have a sling or carrier? That was a godsend sometimes when I had to carry a fussy baby but needed to use 2 hands.

:hugs: gertrude. I've had a rough day as well and just wanted to let you know you're not alone honey. These first weeks/months are sure going to be a struggle aren't they. I don't usually get to eat until well after 1pm when DH isn't home and I was starving and cranky today and called little one some not so choice words which I deeply regret. I feel like such a terrible mother when I loose my patience. One minute she's a precious angel with little puckered lips and the next she's screaming inconsolably and I have no idea what to do to calm her down (fresh diaper, full belly, burped, comfortable position). I'm thinking of picking up some gripe water to see if it will help with her fussiness. Many Mom's I know have used it with great success and it's actually used quite a bit in DH's culture (middle eastern). Anyone else use/hear of it?

I have found a saving grace today in my Moby Wrap carrier. Pulled it out for the first time, watched a you tube video and well she's in there. Not exactly the most perfect wrap job but for our first time I'm pleased. She fell asleep right away and I was able to do a load of wash, the dishes, and am sitting now and she's still comfy in there. Once I figure out how to breastfeed in it I may never take it off! DH is excited to try out his carrier as well (it's more of a backpack type that you wear on the front, no wrapping required).

For the red bum, our nurse recommended using maylox or another antacid to help neutralize the acid of her poos. Apparently since I have so much milk it makes her stools really loose and they tend to burn her more. She doesn't have a rash yet but I want to start as a preventative measure. Might also start putting some butt paste on at every dipe change.

No nursing in public for me yet, I have nursed in the exam room at the pediatrician when they were running late, in the backseat of the car to top her off before lunch out, and also in the Mommy room at babies r us, but have been too chicken to do it in a real public place. I'll be the Mom running to the restroom to breastfeed her baby even though that's kind of icky.

Gertrude, I know what you mean about heating up food when holding LO but I've done it before and just turned the side of my body I was holding her on well away from the stove and made sure to keep my distance. I also wasn't cooking anything that could splatter as that would be too dangerous. Mostly I just heat up leftovers in the microwave or put frozen things in the oven which I can usually manage to set her down for a minute to pull the hot food out. Having to get real creative that's for sure!

Whoever was asking, yes I totally have a fear of dropping baby. For me it's when I'm going up and down the stairs, I always try to hold the rail but sometimes both hands are full or the way I'm holding her I can't really do it.

Gem, sorry to hear they're moving Ollie, hope you're able to get some answers. You are really strong for dealing with all of this honey. Wish I could offer more than that but you really are doing amazing for everything that's been thrown at you.

just want to send quick :hugs: to those who need it, think i'm going to be co-sleeping tonight and DH is in spare room, everytime I put Alex down in moses basket hes instantly awake :( 3rd attempt now and i can't keep this up all night! xxx

Gertrude hun, you seriously need to find time to eat or youre just going to find it even harder to cope.
Put her down for just a couple of mins... quick enough to get some toast made or something! She might fuss and carry on but itll only be for a few minutes and she'll be fine!
A baby needs a healthy mummy so make sure you look after yourself as well as her x

New pic of me and Ollie <3
He threw up over my shoulder after this haha. Gross!

Our little one doesn't want to sleep in her bassinet or glider much either. She loves being on her tummy but I suspect it's due to the fact that she's usually on top of my chest or her Daddy's chest. Last night I tried putting her down in her bassinet while she was still slightly awake (but drowsy after a feed) and then stroked her cheek and tried to soothe her as she fell asleep. Worked for about 10 minutes then she was fussing, so back in bed and on my chest she went. Tried again at the next feed and dipe change and no luck. I'll continue to try at least once each night but man it's sure getting to me. I do want her to be able to self soothe and fall asleep safely on her back (or even side) in her bassinet, but I reach a point where my sleep is more important and back in bed she goes.

If anyone has any tips for geting them to happily fall asleep on their backs I'm all ears! Sounds like many of us are having this same problem as has been pointed out.

Ahh Gem he is getting so big!! How much does he weigh now? Love the picture, you both look wonderful!!

Ive never ever actually put Ollie on his stomach lol. I wouldnt know how to do it!
He seems to like being on his back enough anyways I guess.

Bernina, hes about 5lb 6oz now :) Hes getting chubby little cheeks haha!

Good job Ollie on regaining birth weight and then some!! I definitely notice his face looking fuller.

Be glad that Ollie's content on his back, will make your life so much easier when he's home with you.

We've started tummy time per the pediatrician and Lizzie is so darn cute. We have an activity mat that has a mirror on it and I put her next to the mirror with a little pillow under her chest for support. She does baby push ups to stare at herself in the mirror, cutest thing ever. I think she thinks there's another baby inside there!

Aww haha sounds adorable! :D
I cant wait to get ollie on his play mats! He has three so he shouldnt get bored lol!

Wow 3 mats, lucky boy he won't be bored for sure!!

Sorry to everyone having a tough time :hugs:

Im glad Tobys not the only baby who fuses at the mere sight of his moses. I've got him on me now... I have to have him fall asleep in a sitting upright sort of position, then gradually lay him flat on his back on my legs. Then I can try moving him to the basket but somehow even in his sleep he can tell the difference and fussed as soon as I put him down.

He's been really gassy since last night too... Bottom end!! But he hasn't quite worked our how to get rid of it all yet so he strains at the wrong times and it kinda builds up. Think it's giving him tummy ache which is making him fuss more- he actually growls. It's horrid because there's not much I can do except comfort him til he farts it all out!

Re gripe water- I have some and will eventually try it but I didn't think you could use it in the first few weeks. DF and I have found that a small amount of cooled boiled water can help a little bit though.
