April Mummies 2011

I can't believe it! Isis was asleep after feeding in her shirt from the day and a diaper so I brought her to her bed and put her in it. I was getting a night diaper ready (cloth) since it was late enough and while I was getting the diaper ready she rolled onto her side (away from me) and fell asleep. She is still asleep and not swaddled! She might be done with swaddling! I'd be so happy if that's the case. I don't even mind the money I spent buying her larger swaddlers. We'll see what happens when she wakes up to eat. I hope she goes down just as easily.
My big girl growing up so fast!

Quiet night in here.
Isis actually went all night free. She actually slept slightly better. She woke at 12, 3, 5:45. She had been waking at 2 hour intervals instead of 3. Now if I can get her to skip the 12/1 waking I'll be so much happier!

Catch up time!

Sam - Omg. I dont even know what to say but very sorry to hear about the sad news :/ big hugs to you and your family and RIP baby Rilyn xxx

Emmys - Same goes to you, very sorry to hear of your loss. Cancer is a terrible thing :/ I bet he was a strong man though fighting it for those months. RIP x Big hugs xxx

Jakes - Hope your boob is feeling better soon!

Cheese Lover - Aww bless hope Isis' cold clears up soon. Poor little thing! You been giving her saline drops to clear her nose?
Oh and her pics are beautiful!

Caro - Hugs to your friend. One of my friends had a miscarriage this week too :/ Shes devastated. I dont take Ollie near her atm because it upsets her.
Also, Awww haha Alex is a little cutie! Look at all that hair!

Lilly - Aleena is a little beauty! She has gorgeous eyes!

Dana - Abby is another little beauty! I love all her little headbands and whatnot! Little diva haha :)

Ollie is doing gooood. Hes learnt how to blow bubbles at people kinda when he gets excited... ends up spitting everywhere with it though haha so its gross but cute at the same time xD
Got him weighed on Tuesday just gone and hes now 11lb 9oz! Still in newborn clothes though even though they only go upto like 11lb... but some still swamp him :S might be cos hes a little shortie!

He had some test done last week (cant remember if I posted about it or not) to test his reflux. Got the results back now... apparently he doesnt have a reflux :S so now were back to square one of knowing the cause of these "floppy episodes" :/

I had an ultrasound all over my abdo on wednesday just gone but still awaiting results and got my appointment through for the endoscopy for 10th august. Getting put asleep for it cos Im a shithouse! :P

Is anyone thinking about early weaning? I'm toying with the idea. Rex sits & watches me eat so intently & he's started to kinda chomp his mouth & poke his tongue out like he's eating! He's also constantly chomping on his hands & his toys. I don't know if he's maybe going to be ready for something other than milk in another month or so.

I've spent a long time researching early weaning. There's a good report that just cam out in May from the British Dietetic Association (or something with a sinilar name, can't quite remember the exact name!) And a lot of the evidence says there's no detrimental effect if LOs are weaned between 4-6 months. But leaving it after 6 months can cause issues if they aren't moved on quick enough.

ive been thinking about it but mostly bc rosie screams until i let her play with my food and shows me her hungry signs but wont take boob if there is food around. ive heald off though but if she keep;s it up...

I won't be weaning before 4 months for sure as the research is pretty clear about the risks of that but I'll likely start her on food sometime between 4 and 6 months. She's not showing any signs of being ready. I had her with me at the table last night and she was staring at the ceiling fan. She had no interest in what we were doing.

Gem, I hope they're able to figure something out from your tests. It's so tough not knowing what's going on. Ollie is such a cutie, I can't believe he's still in some newborn stuff. We've moved all newborn and some 3 month clothing out already.

Im also planning on weaning Ollie between 4 and 6 months. Start off slow and build it up :) No earlier, and no later though. I bet he'll love his food. He always tries to get at what Im eating and EVERY time I sit down for a meal and he sees it he cries because he cant get at it haha!

Rosie puts everything in her mouth. EVERYTHING!!!! she's showing a lot of signs of being ready for it but I know to wait.

MissFox, does your family have a history of allergies or stomach issues? If you talk to the pediatrician they may give you the go ahead to start a little early since she's showing so many signs of being ready. If you wanted to start earlier. My DH and his family have food allergies and stomach issues so I'm probably going to wait until closer to 6 months no matter if she seems ready. If she can avoid the issues they have it'll be so much better.

My DD puts everything in her mouth but that doesn't mean she's ready for food.
We're going to do BLW @ 6 months, not any sooner.
Milk is all she needs right now.

agreed lilly!!

no need to make our lil ones grow up faster then they are

sazzle I might consider early weening too, not before 4 months though but he's definately getting ready for it. My health visitor thought he'd need weening early too cos he's such a big boy. Think will aim for just a little baby rice or something initially then when he hits 6mths to start finger foods for BLW, but I need to look into it a bit more 1st!

Dana...cute pics!

Gem, hope they get to the bottom of both yours and Ollie's health problems soon! xx

If you feed him before 6 months, it's not BLW anymore.
And tbh "cause he's a big boy" isn't a sign that he's ready for solids.
Breastmilk has more calories and nutrition than almost all solids.

of course if you feed before 6 months it's still BLW - if it's driven by the baby and not forced by the parent - BABY LED etc

I will wean when I think she's ready. The info I've read suggests that after 6 months could be problematic and I think the WHO say BY 6 months, not after (I think it's WHO, someone anyway, I've slept since I read it :haha: )

One rule doesn't fit all babies - I suspect pickle will be before 6 months but I will be led by her and not by my expectations or by what a paper/article/"professional" says - she knows what she wants better than anyone.

I'll need to be seeing several cues before I go for it :) She's interested in why I put things in my mouth that isn't a bottle but other than that she's a long way off yet.

Not just breastmilk Lilly. Formula does too.

In all honesty, a mothers intuition tells you when baby is ready. With Jake, he was downing his bottles so fast and was hungry after even though hevwas on 8 oz at 18 weeks old. He also lost his tongue thrust ; if you introduce a spoon or any thing to the mouth, and they push the item / food back out with their tongue, they are generally not ready.
Also agree with allergies in families. If Amy evidence of this, I'd wait a bit longer.

I haven't a clue when I'm going to wean. I guess I'll be looking for the signs anytime after 17 weeks. Don't really care when as long as she isn't bloody fussy!!!! My sons a great eater and I hope she's as good!

Sorry I didn't mean just breastmilk, I meant formula too.
Just "milk" :flower:

But I was talking to Caro, and she breastfeeds so I said breastmilk

Starting baby rice isn't baby led weaning..

well I'll do 'my lead weaning'. I did say I needed to look into it more yet :haha:

And I read somewhere that some babies are ready for food before six mths but haven't quite got the ability to finger feed yet. Initially weening is way more about tastes etc than actually getting calories from the food anyways. And I'd always offer milk first, not food, so it'd be a kinda 'top-up'.

Will see if a few weeks anyway and will speak with health visitor first, but he's already watching me eat and mouthing plus needing feeds way more regularly than he used to. And waking more at night for food. He also takes a spoon nicely when i've given him calpol. However I'm aware this might be simply due to a growth spurt atm, so will just see how we go.

Need to buy a highchair first anyways :haha:

Ooh I tell you what is handy for feeding in the early days - a bumbo seat! They are great! I've started putting Amelia in it for only a minute or so whilst I have my hands full. I don't have a tray with mine, but I imagine they are handy too. Failing that, I also used the carseat lol!!
