Yes it will!

Who told you that!? They havnt got a clue! xx

Nooooo! You shouldnt give a baby under 4mths anything other than their milk
and possibly some cooled boiled water in hot weather. They dont need anything
else and their digestive system is too immature to take anything other than
milk or water. Definatly shouldnt be having anything in the way of sugar.

Its not recommended honey. I was told by a friend to do this for my lo's colic. I found this and sent it to her.

She also told me to give my baby formula and add 2 extra scoops before bed so he sleeps for longer - not the best person to go for for advice.

Glad you didnt listen! - Thats a sure fire way to belly ache and constipation
as the milk will be too thick and bubs will get thirsty. :(

I've never heard of this before. Just out of curiosity, what is it meant to do? I won't be doing it, I'm just wondering.
xx

Ahhh the old sugary water - Its so old school! I think it was to make babies take water better if it tasted sweeter!
I give Aymen a little water every few days to settle his tummy, but no way would i pop sugar in it! They no no different anyway, so no need to flavour it for them :)

I've given my LO a little fresh oj and water for constipation but never heard of giving sugary water

I was told a metal teaspoon of cooled boiled water to help wind, he holds on to it for ages, I might be temped to try it that amount is unlikely to harm or interfere with his feeding but I wouldn't give a bottle of water nor would I ever add sugar even when he's older or he'll never take plain water.

I imagine its for tummy problems, like constipation, but things like lactolase fix that?

the nurses gave this to my LO in the NICU when he got his needles and IVs, it distracted him and he never cried. I also him some before his 2 month needles, again, never cried.
You only give less that 1 ml. and obviously not just whenever you please, its only given before painful procedures.

Nope.

My daughter was given it in SCBU for putting her IV's in, its used as pian relief.

I heard the old sugar water formula from members of the 'old school'

Just milk and boiled cooled water for all babes under 4 months.

No way would i give a baby sugar water

(except under the exceptional circumstances written above and from a doctor)

My LO is on sugar water, because she's not keeping anything down at the moment, and apparently sugar helpscoat the stomach and therefore helps prevent them vomiting. It's similar to Dyrolite (sp?) which contains sugar and salt, and which is used to rehydrated dehydrated babies. I was told to give brown sugar opposed to white, but I didn't ask why. I've only been giving it to her since last week though, I woudln't normally give it; my LO wil normally have plain water or herbal tea (which contains no sugars)

My HV told me to give Owen a tiny bit of sugar in water for constipation

The midwives gave baby sugar water to calm her down when she had her ECG and blood pressure monitors so I think its given to calm down when something uncomfortable or painful has to be done such as injections or whatnot, don't think there's a need to do so otherwise.

Baby didn't like it anyway and sicked it up!

A baby doesn't need anything other than milk or formula, water isn't even suggested under 6 months (and where I live under 1 year).

I have no idea why but a lot of the older generation did this

I can see the reasoning for those LO's that were in hospital but don't understand the point otherwise?

so in answer to your question... no dont do it xx
