I am 35 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed with Asymetric IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction) last week. The doctor is having me do, weekly non stress tests and ultrasounds. His head measured 34 weeks, but his body measured 31 weeks, and he was under weight. Supposed to be weighing in a around 5 1/2 pound and was only 3 pounds and 8 ounces. He has only gained 1 pound in two months.

I had my first monitoring appointment today. My amniotic fluid dropped from 11 to 8 in just this last week. But they said other than that he looked ok. Does anyone have some way they can relate to me? I feel so alone, and so worried.

And does anyone know if his amniotic fluid drops down to 5 or less, weather or not they will take him earlier. Please can somebody give me some advice?! I feel like I am going crazy with worry?

Thank You So Much,
Emily

Hi Hun I have no experience with augr but do have experience with low fluid (oligohydraminos). When my waters first ruptured at 14 weeks m levels were only 1.3. 8 is fine x at around 33 weeks my waters went from 12 to 3 but I still went overdue so don't worry. They may consider taking him early because of the augr but he will be in safe hands x

hey hun im in the same boat last week my bubs only weighed 3lb5oz and i have been suffering with low afi my levels were 4.2 but had a scan yesterday and the fluid had gone up to a 8 was having daily ctg but now that the fluid has increased its once a week along with scans x

Hi hun,
First of all hugs :hugs: I know you must be worried.

I too am having weekly scans due to low fluid, so I know how worrying that is-do you think it is possible you have been leaking amniotic fluid at all? This is the theory with me.

With me what they have done so far is:
Given me steroid injections, done a swab test, blood test and the have had me on a monitor to check baby's heart rate-have they done this with you? It may be worth asking what the plan of action is. Don't feel ever that you are asking too many questions or if you want any of these things checking etc. Its important your fully informed.

I have been told if it got to a point my baby wasn't looking too good, or my placenta didn't seem to be functioning well enough they would induce me, however, the plan is to get me to term (at least 36 weeks).
So I should imagine a similar course of action would be taken with you-keep doing the regular scans and decide each week if baby is better off in that out. (Although they usually like to keep them in where possible)

One thing I was told is keep an eye on the kicks, as this is a good indicator of the baby's health, so keep monitoring them. Also, I have heard drinking lots of water can help replenish the waters so its worth a try.

I know its hard, but try not to worry as your being kept an eye on by people who see this type of thing quite a bit.

xx
