Just wondering at what age you started weaning your LO, I've always done started between 5-6 months x

We started traditional weaning last week when DS hit 5 months old. He's had all the signs of being ready since he was 4 months, so we went for the halfway mark. He's only having a small taste, but he's loved everything that he's tried.

half-heartedly around 7 months, then put it off til 10-11 months xx

I've just about managed to stretch mine to the very minimum each time.

Earl was 17w1d when he stole toast off my hubby's plate and eat the lot! :haha:

Edward was 16w6d when he grabbed a peach and scoffed a load of it without even a blink.

Charlie was slower - he was 18w1d when he got hold of Edwards banana and devoured a big chunk of it. I'd been holding off giving him anything for about a fortnight though......in denial that my final baby was/is growing up so fast!

We have been giving dd2 finger foods for a couple of weeks now. Not every day but whenever we are eating and she shows interest (which is alot!) She will be 6 months tomorrow and we plan to start full on blw in the next few weeks

24 weeks for my oldest (we were waiting until 6 months but she stole food and ate it and we were going to do proper BLW anyway so we started early), 26 weeks for my youngest who was more laid back about stealing .

I'm having this debate with my husband, our LO is 5 months today and is a nightmare to eat anything around - she's constantly trying to grab it and cries in frustration when you tell her no! Consequently hubby wants to start now - but the recommendation must be 6 months for a reason right? And given she had colic and I have only just been able to reintroduce fruit juice into my diet I struggle to think her system is ready for early weaning. Just not sure what to do for the best!

Yes and No. While I'm not trying to start a debate, the recommendations are 6m as an ideal but anytime from 4m is actually 'ok' by medical standards. There is a test you can do where you place a banana in front of them. If they can then pick it up, put it to mouth, bite, chew and swallow they're ready.

My view though, when BLW is done on it's own, babies don't actually 'eat' a lot for the first month or so until they get their technique right. Would it be a compromise (and to make mealtimes a little bit quieter for everyone) to put some food on a highchair try and let her play? Or even just some cutlery?
