What do you do about constipation? My 3 month old is breastfed and I noticed him straining earlier and only got out a tiny amount. I think it's caused constipation now. What do I do now?

TIA :flow:

My lo isn't taking anything but he did a lot of straining in the past from bloating. We gave probiotics and simethicone. The probiotics also fixed his reflux not just the bloat :)

I've been wanting to start probiotics especially cause he had to take antibiotics once around 3 weeks old. How do I give that to him? I'm clueless on this stuff. :flower:

My baby was on Gaviscon and had to have Lactulose prescribed alongside it in the end to help the constipation it caused. We'd tried giving regular water before that and it had no effect really.

He was formula fed though, and it also helped when we changed to a formula which contained probiotics - so I'd recommend that too!

You can mix it with breastmilk, or even a bit of water if you have no milk at hand! I collected milk from letdowns though, it was fairly easy.
I am giving him another round of probiotics now to be sure his problem is 100% fixed (he has about 5% of reflux symptoms left) and am mixing it with the simethicone which also works really well.

I also have to be strict on dairy btw. it causes some problems too.

My lo was on antibiotics for a postpartum infection and I had to take them 6 times in pregnancy for a chronic kidney/ pelvic infection and a flu.
