Hey guys - anyone have stories regarding this? I had an ultrasound at 20w3d and they said the baby was measuring right on target for my Oct 23 due date. He was 13 oz. At 21w exactly I had an appt with my OB and she said my fundal height / uterus is measuring more like 23 weeks.

We are very sure of our dates because I was on clomid and with a fertility doctor so Im almost positive the 2 day window I conceived.

I guess I'm confused that the baby can be measuring correctly but my fundal height can be measuring ahead. I am 5'2 ish and 115 lbs pre pregnancy....could this just have to do with how I'm carrying him on a smaller frame?

Could have many reasons. I am so constipated and only "go" every four or five days. It makes my belly stick out. There are lots of reasons. Its not extremely accurate. I wouldn't worry too much.

Measurements aren't an exact science.

I was 19wk 2d at my ultrasound. Baby's physical size and limbs were measuring 21 wks. Baby's internal organs were consistently measuring 18wk 4d.

Babies born 37-40wks are considered full term, and if you account for the "late" babies you're looking at 37-42wks. A 5wk window! All of which is normal.

As the ladies have said nothing to worry about my boy is right on for his gestation however he's a very tall baby and was is already ahead I had a check up with my consultant at 22ks she measured fh at 40wks! Saw my Gp at 24wks and she measured FH at 33 I'm getting a growth scan scheduled at my 28wk appt due to being so big however I'm not concerned I only DTD once as fob was deployed so my dates are spot on also my DD was 10lbs+ so I know I naturally have big babies x

Thanks girls! I have done some reading since I posted this and it definitely sounds like there is a lot that can effect the measurement...bladder being full, constipation, how the baby is sitting, how skilled the person measuring is. That coupled with baby's not always growing by the book leads to variation.

I think I am deep down worried about having a big baby!

Hey there, this has happened to me during my current and last pregnancies -- with fundal height measuring up to 7 weeks ahead. My OB said this is more common in shorter women because their pelvis is shorter so fundal height is higher than an average or taller women. She only wants to see consistent growth at each visit. BTW I'm 5' 2.5'' and 120 lb before pregnancy (I think I am 137 lb now) and measuring 2 weeks ahead by fundal height.

Fundal height is not very accurate. At my 19 week I was measuring 23. My last pregnancy I was measuring 4 weeks ahead so she sent me in for an ultrasound and everything was normal. You might just have some extra amniotic fluid or baby sitting weird.

One more thing, with my last pregnancy. I gave birth at 40 weeks, a few days early my fundal height was at 44, and my baby ended up being 7 lb 6 oz, so I didn't have a giant baby hehe. I was getting weekly ultrasounds in the last 3 weeks and was told my amniotic fluid was slightly higher. So in my case it may have been a combo of short stature and excess amniotic fluid.

if it is only couple cm difference it not much cause for concern it is morw of a concern when u measure quite a bit ahead. with my first i measured close to 40wks when i was 30wks. i had way too much amniotic fluid. they will probably do a scan as a precaution as having too much fluid can be a sign of something wrong with baby as in my case was but doesnt mean there will be with yours

I love how you put that 1/2 inch in there. Lol. Too cute. ;)

i think fundal height is also dependent on your actual physical shape and size etc......along with fluid, bladder, position etc. I wouldn't worry at all. its more of a rough guide and not all that accurate unless there is some sort of gross discrepancy your health care provider wouldn't be worried. I am 27+3 and my fundal height this morning was 25 cm. I am tall with a lean long torso.
