My DD was scolded by boiling hot water in a flask placed on her pram yesterday by a close family member-it wasn't secure and leaked through. I'm distraught and don't want to talk to this person. She is 5 months old and ive just got home from Bristol burns unit, seems her usual self but im just so devastated for her, poor baby. She was placed under a cold running tap for 20 minutes then taken to hospital. This morning she had a bio-brane dressing put on her leg under GA and the Consultants say she has complete partial thickness burn (4% mid-deep burn). It's a waiting game to see if it heals by itself in the next 10-14 days-the outer area they believe will do but they say it's 50:50 for the middle area which is quite deep and may need a skin graft. I'm hoping and praying the burn will heal completely....and obviously ideally for her no scarring or discoloration of skin. It's such a large burn on a little leg. She is to eat a protein rich diet to aid healing so her breast milk and ill blend some fish, cheese, beans etc for her.

I'm in shock atm and just want answers now..but unfortunately we all have to wait. She has an appointment on Saturday to see if the bio-brane is still sticking, and will have her dressings changed every 2 days. Has anyone got any advice or had a similar experience?

Thank you

Omg poor poor baby :( my daughter scalded her leg when she was 3 years old. She was in the bath and I went out the room for a minute and she opened the hot water tap (the water is really hot) and burnt herself. I felt so bad :( it is still scarred (she's 6) but it's faded. Hope your daughter doesn't heals well xxx

Oh my god! No advice here, but i would be fuming! Why did this family member not put the flask underneath the pram? Or on top of the hood? Or HOLD IT THEMSELVES?! I'd totally go ape shit, i hope you let off some serious steam to this close relative! :growlmad: xx

Oh my goodness, your poor little baby :(

I'd be off my head fuming, hot water ON a pram, seriously WTF? The person probably feels (rightly so) guilty as hell but I would have serious words over and over again. This was an idiotic thing to do.

My gosh you poor thing and your poor baby, I don't have any advice but I just wanted to send you massive hugs. I'm hoping your lo heals well x x x

Poor baby :(:(
I would be annoyed too, the person is probably feeling absolutely terrible but even still its no excuse to have hot water around a baby.
Im sure the pain killers will stop the pain for her though, hope it heals nicely!!

Oh no :( your poor LO and poor you, you must be beside yourself right now. I'd be going mental at that person, what a horribly irrisponsible thing to do!!!!

Wishing you and your LO all the best and I really hope it heals fast, poor little mite :(

Aw that looks so sore! Poor little bugger :( I don't blame you for not wanting to talk to your family member! Hope it heals well and quick xx

Jesus this is my worst nightmare. I am so sorry your lo has to endure this. Plenty of protein and vitamin C rich foods will help with wound healing. Plenty of hand washing will prevent infection. People with intense burns get dehydrated easily because of the loss of fluids, so lots of fluid.

My heart goes out for you and your family.

Omg your poor baby :hugs: I'm sorry I have no advice either but I really hope it heals ok! xx

Oh poor little princess! That look sore! Big hugs lots of fluids will help and fingers crossed she heals up without any other issues xx

My baby is currently chatting away and singing to her mobile-her usual beautiful chirpy self. She hasn't even had any paracetamol as not crying. But deep burns can damage nerve endings-plus the dressing acts as a skin.

It was my mother. The flask leaked-Waitrose have recalled all of their flasks and there is an investigation. But who puts this on a pram anyway and if it was put on the hood her face would be burnt instead-i feel sick to even think about that. To the poster about the baby in the bath-did your daughter's skin peel/blister/need treatment? If not then goodness knows how my baby will recover physically. I'm crying so much for her. She's my world and all I've done since the moment I fell pregnant is protect her with my all. Then 'she' does this to my baby.

Oh god my worst nightmare! Not the same but when I was 6 I spilt a boiling got cup of tea over myself, my tummy and tops of my legs were scolded I remember no one knowing if it would heal by itself or wether I'd be left with the damage it was pretty nasty, lucky for me it did completely heal and there's no scar or anything from it. I really hope your daughter heals and won't require a skin graft :hugs:

Your mom probably feels terrible. :(

I'm so glad your baby is acting like herself. I hope she recovers quickly.

Oh my god poor baby. I know accidents happen and all that but hot water on a pram......seriously what is wrong with that person.

I would literally rip their head off!

Your mum must feel so guilty. I completely understand if you cant speak to her for a while/ are angry with her. She must be beating herself up having done this to her grandchild

oh dear, so sorry to read an see this, poor little mite.
Get some lavender essential oil, boots or Holland &barrett sell it, it's not cheap, about £8 a small bottle but is excellent for burns. works best if not diluted. try on a small area of affected skin first, although it is very unlikely to cause a reaction.

Aww poor little woman! :( and poor mummy! Please be sure to update us in a few months and let us know how shes getting on. Hope it heals well :hugs: xx

Oh bless her - I literally had tears in my eyes seeing that picture, poor little mite. I am so glad she seems ok though, I love how resilient kiddies are.

When I was 18 months old I accidentally held my hand under some boiling water - quite a lot gushing out of a tap with a faulty thermostat - and was very badly scalded. This is almost 30 years ago so treatment was very different but what I wanted to say was that I have absolutely no scarring and no nerve damage even though the prognosis was bad. So have hope, and fingers crossed LO will be just fine :flower:
